The "open front" town car is just the natural continuation of the carriages the wealthy had in a previous era. Many of these cars were coachbuilt and many of the coachbuilders had literally built "coaches" before moving to automobiles.

As for practical purposes it was privacy and they are basically the same as a center division limo which has the same amount of privacy without the removable front.

It was intended to copy the style
of the old carriages.......but I think
that showing that you were so rich
that you could afford to treat your
hired help like crap was at least a
small part of the appeal too!!!
    (Arrogant, 'show-offy', class-conscious.
    snobby bastards, they were, don't'cha'

This is Episode 2 of “WHERE THEY RACED: Speed Demons in the City of Angeles”

In this episode you can see by CLICKING HERE will learn all about and see footage of “The Holy Grail” one of the best surviving pre WWI Peugeot racing cars, a bit about Harry Miller and his role in caring for many of them and about Dario Resta who took this car to victory in the 1916 Indianapolis 500. If you missed the first one you can see, Where They Raced – Episode I : The Early Years here. The photos below will show you just some of what you will see in the film.

  17. Photobucket is also getting ready to swap us all to their new format (which I found a real pain, and won't switch until they force me to).

  24. That's no Fairlane with the TeePee trailer in the middle photo.....it's a Pontiac. The trailer with the Ford says "Stag" or "Star" on it.

  25. Great pics Maggie. Thanks for sharing them.

  26. I switched to their new format about a week ago. I actually like it better than the old format except I don't see a method to 'auto resize' some high res pics. Probably just need to play around a bit more with it.

I used the old format for years and something always seemed to be not working correctly.
