Whataburger's were all over the southwest (Az,NM&Tx), this one looks to be in Az. The best "chain" fast food burger place around for years.

 

Wickenburg, AZ. "the most western town in the southwest". This picture was taken just east of US 93 & US 60 jct., heading toward Phoenix. Before Interstate 10, if you were coming from Las Vegas or L.A., you drove right thru here. This was a great little town back in the 70's.

That's how we do it in Jacksonville. The sign represents the merger of Duval County and Jacksonville, 10/1/1968 - making it the largest city 'land wise' in the United States.

 

I was there at NAS Jax in 1970 for "A" school.Good times at Jacksonville Beach.

 

Note the EMPI Inch Pincher logo on the VW bus behind the 4D bug, this would date the pic to the early 70's.

Interesting! I didn't realize that WHATABURGER was that far west! There is still a WHATABURGER within walking distance of my office (here in Newport News, VA) actually! I thought that they were only southEAST. Not bad burgers for the price and the place is still packed at lunchtime!

 

Powered by the Willys-based Hurricane F-head six, the Kaiser Darrin DKF-161 fiberglass
sports car appeared to promote the sports-car movie "Johnny Dark" whose real stars were
Tony Curtis and the low-production Woodill Wildfire, also containing many Willys com-
ponents. The Darrin roadster weighed less than 2,200 pounds and produced 90 hp at
4,200 rpm, with mechanical lifters, 7.3-1 comp ratio and just a single-barrel Carter carb.
A three-speed overdrive manual was standard, though a GM Hydramatic tranny was op-
tional. Tom McCahill liked the car in most respects, though he reported that it leaned a
bit in curves. The sticker was $3,655, or $30,000+ in 2011 dollars. It was the last new
model by Kaiser before the company turned its domestic attention to very successful Jeep
production and took auto production permanently to Argentina, where Kaisers were built
into the 1960s. It is believed that at least two of the convertibles received MuCulloch cen-
trifugal superchargers (possibly at the behest of Darrin himself, who bought up the unsold
Kaiser Darrins. Robert Paxton McCulloch's facilities were very near Darrin's LA showroom).

Some argue that the Kaiser Darrin was the first TRULY American sports car, preceding both
the Corvette and Thunderbird. Apparently, they feel the earlier Nash-Healey did not qualify
as truly American, due to its mixed parentage.

Dyed-in-the-wool car guy Alden Jewell of FlickR posted this KEEN pic of another car guy,
Mechanix Illustrated's "Uncle Tom" McCahill, about to step into the new Tucker 48 for a test
drive. Alden said the August 1948 article by Tom contained high praise for the speedy new
machine. ​

 

I was there for two months last year
and this looks like it could be a typical
parking lot, somewhere in present-day
