Thank goodness we don't build things like we used to. Doors would fly open with no one touching the handle. My brother in law. when he was young, was thrown from the back of his parents old 50's POS Chevy sedan 3 times. By comparison with today's quality, the old cars were real POS. Sadly it was accepted, if not expected.
A little something from one of my little books. I’m sorry in advance if the preceding photos cause any medical issues. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Not true. I have owned and driven a lot of '50's car and never had a door fly open or anything similar. Maybe your BIL's parents car was a POS and who knows its history. Many of those postwar car were real tanks and solid as a rock. I never cared for those stogy looking Chrysler pre-55 products but they were really indestructable.
Yes boys this is what a good real lacquer job looks like, deep n hue rich that you could just dive into and why modern 2 stage clear coat jobs don't and just look like your good old Aunt's nail polish.
Great photo ... I mean, now for those of us who were in junior or high school around the time of this photo there was always that Chevy on those lots and always somehow just out of your pocket change price range too. Of course I would of taken the gold 409 with the 4-speed floor shift, 2 doors and what was not else to like about it and consider it a giant upgrade from that 3 on a tree converted to a Hurst 3 speed cut into the trans tunnel of your 4 door plymouth with the Cal Custom cheapo oil and water gauges hanging down from below the ash tray or whatever you were driving at the time. Or wait ... on second thought, perhaps that cool 58 Chev with the 348 and probably with that neatest tri-colored silver pipe interior would be the coolest in town ? However, being from the future now we spot a Lhead Jaguar at the door. A Mercedes 190, a Sunbeam Tiger, a TR-3 and perhaps a Mercedes 300 coupe hiding in the rear ? So what are we waiting for - Let's get into our time machine cargo hauler, go back and just buy the 2-Mercedes and that Jag, bring them back, sell then retire again.
