Glad you got a kick out of these. I was at an auction of the estate of the guy who took these, he was a bachelor and had a really wild looking house that looked like an old farmhouse on the outside and a 70's DIY Playboy mansion on the inside. The maroon 31ish Chevy sedan and the 3W coupe were both sold at that auction, along with the O/T drag boat you got pictures of.

There was a big pile of unsold stuff destined for a dumpster when the auction was over, and this photo album was in there. I asked the people in charge of the auction if I could take it and they said go ahead, anything you want out of that pile you can have, so I grabbed it. Seemed a shame to throw it away, but it's been in my closet for probably 15 years already doing nothing so I'm glad you're able to share some here.

My favorite pics are the blue and yellow 28/29 on 32 rails, it's done really nice and seems like someone might recognize it, and also in the background of the 31ish Chevy sedan there's a giant 1800's era steam tractor on steel wheels, just parked in the driveway like it's someone's daily commuter. Wild.

I don’t have much information on this one. The guy on the left was my grandfather. The guy on the right is the owner of this ‘40 convertible. I had seen other pictures long ago of this car, and it had a leopard print interior. Grandpa passed on a while back and those earlier pictures didn’t show up, but we came across this one and I think it’s the best. Back of the picture says it was taken in Georgia.

    Hello,

In the recent water shortage/dry spell affecting everyone in the Western half of the USA, one of the more popular desert climate areas was the Salton Sea. It is located in the almost barren Southeastern desert climate in landlocked California. It is about 70 miles from the U.S. / Mexican border. As the crow flies, it is the Pacific Ocean, the valleys, the mountain ranges, the desert and then the Salton Sea and East to Arizona.

It is one of the largest bodies of water and one of the lowest spots in the area. So, what would make a family in the 1950s go there for a vacation? That is a good question…

Speaking about her so called “vacations” with the family to those long hot road trips to the Salton Sea from the big OC, my wife said it was not her choice of places. If anyone has ever gone there, you would see why. Desolate, dry, very hot and not the best place to spend a week outside in the elements. My brother and I were glad that our dad was a coastal guy and wanted to take vacations on the sand/ocean in the Western USA or in the Baja, Mexico coastlines.

But, it was the 50s and the dad ruled the roost. So, out on the road, again and the destination was the Salton Sea.

It was a desolate place and if anyone wanted privacy, this was the place. Of all of the whole shoreline around this lake, my wife remembers driving for over 2+ hours to get there and then another time searching for the “best” spot along the empty shoreline. Her favorite story about the camping area was being in the camping spot and out of the blue, another station wagon pulls up along this long and winding shoreline road.

So, her dad would go out to the edge of the water and start shooting his shotgun up and out toward the empty water. In an instant, the family in the other approaching station wagon instantly turned around and took off for another far away camping location. HA!

What has become of the Salton Sea these days? Well, it is still there and losing water like other inland lakes. It has gotten the notoriety in Hollywood movies, a lot of books, and TV shows as a desolate place for those “lost” people. The desolation and closeness to the barren valleys to the South and the border are ripe for various activities, too.

The most recent story is about saving the inland salt lake with salt water from the Gulf of California to the South and somehow, 120 miles West to the Pacific Ocean in San Diego. That seems like a different scenario that won’t happen due to the economy. Also… WHY?

I am surprised and confused that Moriarity would feel the need to show that he actually has the pics. He has enough cool stuff that we all should know that he can back it up...

I've seen this picture before. That's the old Civic Arena in Pittsburgh. The "32" is Harry Luzader's when it was still driven on the street. I'm going to say 62 or 63.

I own this car today. I found what was left of it years ago (just the frame and what was left of the body) and a good as gold title. I managed to track down the original builder's son and he sent me these pictures. 119636004_3421537101235804_781150235029144645_n (2).jpg IMG_2857.jpg IMG_2858.jpg IMG_2860.jpg IMG_2861.jpg IMG_2862.jpg IMG_2865.jpg IMG_2866.jpg IMG_2867.jpg IMG_2868.jpg

I do that because I wanted this thread to be actual pictures and not just a bunch of google search downloads. I am just proving that I actually have the paper photos
