I know there have been a few threads on classic car hitches, but they seem to all go into the realm of pulling campers and other class 2 and higher jobs. I'd like to see pics of class 1 hitches on your classic rides and vintage pics. Especially the seedy underbellies showing how they were mounted. Maximum 2000 lb. set-ups for little luggage haulers and such. I've got a couple hitches that I want to set up for my 53' and 54' Chevy cars. One is a clamp-on bumper kit that we found in a ditch years ago. It was fun to disassemble as it was heavily rusted together and had been hacked together and they even used old hex drive sockets as bolt spacers. I'll need to make a few pieces for it but the major pieces are all there. A question I have is about the chains. Would those just get tied around the bumper, or where there other clamps for them originally, or did people just not bother with them since the trailers were so light?
I bought a 57 Chevy Handyman wagon this past summer from two brothers who started to rebuild it in the early 70s. All the rechromed trim was wrapped in 1974 newspaper. This jewel was included. It is a Drawtight brand and marked 57 Chevrolet Wagon.
So This one isn't mine, but I have part of the kit and was lucky to find this image online to reference. It makes for a nice low profile set-up and the pieces all look easy to fabricate.
i have one similar to this one which fit my 59 pontiac.. how much weight you can put on one of these?
Had one similar to above on my 6cyl std 60 Impala 2 dr hdtop and towed my 32 with it a few times. Tow bar made from an A wishbone if I remember correctly. Paul in CT
I had about 30-40 pounds on mine. Trailer was fiberglass/wood frame if inside and a light weight steel frame. It was level with the trunk of my Chevelle. Max weight was 3-400. Never knew it was back there.
I found this one in a shop this summer. It's for a Chevy II. I bought, I dont know why, I'll never use it...... I must have the Must Have Disease..
