I don t remember if I posted this .. I have this one in a really decent shape. Notice the stock decal ! It s a 1933 A-50 4hp.
Why didn't I think of that?? Especially since my wife has a Falcon too. She can tow the camper and I'll tow the boat.
1958 Chris Craft Roamer steel hull. Chris Craft built 85 28-footers between 1956 and 1959. This one originally powered by twin 225 hp Nash 327 Fireballs. We're building a pair of 6bt Cummins powerplants for it. Then I'd like to put one of those 327s in my Diamond T Pickup. I think Diamond T used a Nash six cylinder in the 50s and may have even used the 327 in the 60s.
Here is new engine 1 of 2 running on a test stand. These motors came out of some salvaged school buses. This one has been rebuilt and is on its way to becoming marinized. They are getting TwinDisc 502 trasnmissions with 1.5:1 ratio. The original Velvet drives were 2:1, so we'll be spinning the diesels nice and slow with even bigger props.
I just found these vintage boat pics, while searching for "Vintage Shots From Days Gone By" pics. These are from the Nelson BC area on Kootenay Lake.
I posted pics a while back of my boat, but I just recently finished a long overdue dash restore/remodel. The dash originally had this curved shape on the ends, but it was wrapped in vinyl when new. I made a thin aluminum sheet to duplicate the shape, then I put on a mahogany veneer sheet over the aluminum. Fabricated some lower trim, from angle aluminum. Polished the steering wheel mount. Modded the steering wheel. It was originally a 2 spoke with no trim, but I added a 3rd spoke, and the aluminum trim on the lower sections of the original spokes. And a couple shots from our last trip. Wallowa Lake, OR. Ok, I've posted more than enough. Someone else can hog the thread now.
That was very similar to our first boat back in the late 60s, same engine. Had those 'comfortable' wood seats.
That's pretty! Well worth space on the forum. Thansk for sharing those photos! I just got this block back from the machine shop. This will be engine #2 for my '58 Chris Craft.
A little late getting the boat into the water this year. First time launching with the Diamond T. Had a little trouble pulling it out, but we made it!
That IS cool! Pulling 'em out for the first time can be interesting. As you might tell from the photo below, the trailer that came with my steel Roamer was light on tongue wieght. So, I built another trailer. To save road miles, we launched the boat and crossed by water to a ramp much closer to home. We pulled it out on the other side using our cutom-built trailer. I could hear concrete scraping as I drove up the ramp. The Dodge kept moving, so I didn't stop til I got to the flat part of the ramp. Midway between the trailer tires and the bumper hitch, the trailer frame was laying on the concrete with 10,000 pounds of steel boat bearing down on it. We scratched our heads, put it back in the water for the time being and went back to the drawing board on our trailer design. We doubled the steel in the frame, and repositioned some cirtical load bearing points. She's dry-docked now.
I Live on a lake and I'd rather hear a screaming Hemi with open headers than a jet ski doing donuts - Any Day!!!
some of these boats look more fun than a barrel full of monkeys. Saw this and dig it. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171071279145?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648
I hjave an Evenrude and a Johnson. Both 35 horse engines from 1958. The boat is a 71 Viking formerly in the service of the BLM. Its gonna look great behind the '57 Country Sedan.
Would this be the "Barn Find" of the boat world? (can't get the photos to copy in this quote - it's post #169 in this thread for the pics...)
Boat is finally in the water for the season. 49 years in the same dock slip. The dock itself has changed about 6 times.
It has the factory 435 Lincoln. Pulls strong. I thought I had a picture of the engine around here but couldn't find it.
I bought one years ago for the engine/ trans for my 56 cc capri. I still have the bow light and windshield. I was told it was a super sport model, very nice boat
