Who Knows how to decode the numbers from a 1930 ford model A 5 window coupe..... Trying to register my car.
Mod.A 's did not have VIN #'s only S/N #'s. Motor #'s were stamped on the driver side frame rail , near the front body mount. These numbers usually had a star stamp before and after. Jack
I think he is refering to assembly plant, month, date, body style, etc... Do not worry about it the DMV will not care if your vin number is not in the system to begin with. If it is then it still will not make any difference because you can't change what they have it listed as body style wise or if it is a truck which will make it commercial.-Weeks
The serial number actually belonged to the engine/transmission unit. For all US production, the engines and transmissions were built at the River Rouge plant in Michigan and shipped out to assembly plants around the country. When that particular engine/trans unit was bolted into a chassis, the number from the engine/trans unit was stamped onto the frame. They literally had a guy with a big hammer and a set of number stamps whose job was to copy the number off the engine/trans unit onto the frame. This practice continued through '48.
So Im trying to make my own numbers and I was told the first two following the A was for the year and yes there is a star in the begining and at the year.. So does anybody know if its true about the first two numbers?
the only info you can get from the serial number is the month of production , which i really don't think will make any difference in registering it. there also should be a number stamped in a body cross channel that will tell you which assembly plant your car came from..once again i don't think that will mater to the DMV try this link for serial numbers: http://www.mafca.com/data_eng_production.html
no..you are not listening. there isn't a date hidden in the serial number , rather there is a record of what serial numbers were each month and year. click on the link i gave you and looks yours up let's for example say your serial number is 4,100,000....that would be November 1930
Ok Ill check it out.. I dont have numbers im trying to take some off of another frame and change them around for my use..
