the wiper arms for my 60 dissapeared sometime while I was working on it, and now I need to try to wire the wipers up somehow (switch is broken), anyone know what'll work? i don't guess they necessarily have to look good, since I can take them off when it's not raining.
ALso does anyone know how to wire these up for thise time frame? and what I could do for a switch until I find a replacement? just use a toggle switch and only have one speed? Thanks...-J

  2. You could use a single throw double pole switch with a center off position and have 2 speeds or a wiper switch from a 60's or early 70's beetle. They are 2 speed.

You can usually find a switch at a decent parts counter...like NAPA, etc. There are usually some rotary style switches that have 2 "on" positions. Some of these were really designed for sontolling the heater blower (high and low speed), but won't give you the self-parking feature of the wipers. Most wiper motors of that era (and well into the 70s and 80s) had a Ground, High, Low, and park wire. (Some were grounded thru the mount to the firewall/cowl.) You would have a hot wire going to the appropriate terminal on the swich. You could probably just figure out which wire's which by putting power to them, then wire your switch from there.

You can get wiper switches with the park function built-in from any of the aftermarket wiring vendors.

You might check Cars1 or Impala Bob's. I bet the Chevy arms would fit your Poncho.

ok I found 5 arms in a pile of junk that came out of the trunk of the car when I got it, does anyone have an old manual or something that tells which ones I"m supposed to use? The numbers on them are L1, R1, L2, R2, and LH2SPD...so it looks like I shoud have what I need, but I dunno which ones to use. need to figure it out so I know what length blades to get...

On the '63, when they are parked, the driver's side wiper is on top.

ok cool, I'm gonna look through ebay and see if theres any pictures of cars i can check the wipers out on, now I just need to figure out a switch and the wiring. The wiring isn't hooked up at all, theres just 3 (i think) black wires comign through the firewall from the wipers, so I guess I'll just have to do trial and error to figure out what's what. Hopefully I won't fry the things...
