Update 5: the Hudson gets a splash of color...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by hudsoncustom, Jun 30, 2008.

  1. This is kind of what I'm thinking. A little darker. Candy Brandywine over Gold. It's gonna be dreamy.

    Thanks for the Photoshop!

  2. That dark red is cool. Too bad it's not a Merc, close enough though. Hudsons are the "poor man's Mercury". Ha Ha.

  3. funny thing. i got this hudson because i "couldn't afford a merc"

    :D

Meh, I've always thought Hudsons were cooler than Mercurys.

  5. That's why I'm trying to make my Mercury look like a Hudson. That'd be wacky.

Any chance of some HQ photos of the window trim? That's the part I'm most excited about. Should raise it up and above.

Regarding the color scheme. I love the dark reds, but I must say cream accents or a pearl/candy cream lower/dark red upper would be stunning. But then again I won't give my final 0.02$ till I've seen all the trim on it since that will really be a great touch.

Im with Cleatus on this one. The silver grey looks great I think. Just something light.
The darker and shinyer the better body and painter You must be. FED

  12. Wooahh I never thought a hudson could look that awesome!

  13. Perhaps I will, once we've made some noticeable progress and it doesn't just look like a pile of parts and a pipe dream.

Speaking of, I've actually done quite a bit on the Hudson since I made this post, but again, not much of it shows. Just some bodywork and shit. I'm getting ready to tear the car down and get it ready for the real bodywork and paint. Come spring, it'll be a whole new car...

    Very, very sharp.

I'm not that good with colors, and generally am not in favor of chopping a Hudson (cuz they don't need it - eat your fricken hearts OUT Mercmen!!)

But, you have done one hell of a job - and it just keeps getting better.

Yup, ditto. With the copper accents. Regardless of color, you can have my panties.

  19. Hudsons are the best in those years. They are so under-rated.

The lines and interior panels/dash are so awesome.

heh, wish I had one. :)

any new up dates. thought you said it was getting redone over the winter...

  21. I know, I said it. That was the plan. The car was put up on jack stands, to get some things done, and then the bad weather hit. I'm not that much of a pussy that bad weather stops me, but I'm a property claim adjuster which means I've been extremely busy working 12 hours a day 6 days a week for the last 2 months. I haven't had time to get out to the garage.

Anyhow. when things slow down a bit, I've done some chassis updates, new fuel tank, radiator, etc.. I'll pull the engine, rebuild the trans (again...this will be the final time for sure), and get cracking on the final body work.

I can't make any promises, but I'm hoping to have all that done, with the car in paint by June.

  24. Well, I thought I might post an update of sorts on this thread.

I decided over the winter to re-do the front end of the car. Once I made the grille opening, I wasn't happy with the "flat spot" under the stock headlights.

I've always admired the Wally Welch Merc, and the Buster Litton Ford with their "swoopy" headlights, and after discussing the front end with my buddy Dave York (who also did his headlights in a similar fashion), I decided to cut into mine.

I frenched the headlights, pulled the headlights forward 2 inches by extending the fender, and then fabbed up new lower fenders.

I've been working like mad to get this thing in paint by the end of the month. I'm getting close, in the process of final wet sanding now after blocking and re-priming the car again.

It will get painted 54 Buick Titian Red.

Home Run Hudson, that baby is so right on, everything is yummy, the Plymouth grill is brilliant. Thanx for sharing, it looks extra sinister draped in the black cloak. Made my day!! ~sololobo~
