Hoping someone can help shed some light as to what I’ve gotten myself into. I am trying to identify a small block Chevy that I am in the process of tearing down for rebuild. The block casting number is 3956618. The engine pad is stamped with V0318FA. My grandpa got the engine years ago at a yard sale and believes it to be a 327. If that is indeed what the engine is which of the following heads would lend higher compression for the engine? It will have standard pistons and a stock four barrel intake. The casting numbers on the heads I have at my disposal are 3927185 and 3748770. I know there are better heads available but this is what I have and I’m a broke 17 year old who is putting this engine in a 91 GMC so I don’t have to drive my 64 Impala through the winter to high school. Thanks, Trent Rogers
Looks like it might be a 235 hp 327 from a full size 1969 Chevy car. The 185 heads would work on the engine. The 770 heads would best be sold on ebay to a corvette restorer, to fund your project
Bothe small valve heads. 770 says off a 283 https://www.nastyz28.com/sbchevy/sbch.php http://www.v8volvo.se/mekartips/identifiering/chevrolet/toppar/toppidentifiering.html .
