I just bought a set of unilug wheels for my 1964 Falcon, and when I put them on the car the lug nut is so, close to the inside of the wheel hole, I can't tighten the lug nut with a standard 13/16s socket. Do I need to buy some sort of special inset lug socket thats made of sheet metal? Or do I have the wrong nuts? or what I was thinking is just grinding out the material in that area so I can get a socket on the things.
7/16” or ½” ? Id try to get deferent nuts …. NAPA has access to most nuts out there and has a picture book. There are same size nuts that take a smaller socket. There should be some for that with a ¾ hex. If need be you can drill and re tap on a lathe smaller ones w the hex you need. I had to do this last week when I needed 9/16 nuts with a 13/16 hex.
Make sure you have the shanked "mag wheel" lug nuts with matching washers and you should be fine. Should look something like this.
you havent said what type of wheel you have, some are round and some are oval, a couple of pictures of what you have would be a good idea.
Any resolution on this? I have the same deal with tru-spokes. 1/2 lugs with 13/16 heads like those pictured. Its a bit difficult to get them on and thought to thin a socket out a little to make it easier on install, as long as I can get about 75# on it. Just wondering if you came across anything new or easier. Unilugs can be a pain in the ass.
Craftsman thin wall socket 12 point is all they made it in still would work they are also broached way to the square which is the best for chev SBC windage tray bolts
