I know that they aren't as strong, but I've seen several S-10 rears used. May have been the blazer rear.
The chunks aren't that easy to find anymore. Good rears. Just not that easy to find.

My dad has a 605 on his 56 Nomad. With headers and power brakes, it is bear to get to anything on that side f the engine. The 500 may make for more room.

  5. I used Heidt's drop spindles. You can get brackets for different rotor/caliper combos. So you get a wide selection of donor cars to choose from. CPP and others offer "kits" with everything you need. I used donated rotors, calipers, and master cylinder. Saved an few$$$. Stock rear is fine and why fix something that ain't broke? As for PS, I didn't go that route. I have stock steering and a stock wheel. Parking can be a little tough, but I have never had it any other way so I'm used to it. For repair panels, the above mentioned CARS are a good way to go. NONE will fit or look exactly like the original stampings, but pay for the better quality, you won't be sorry.

I just added the CPP 500 power steering box to my '56. It works great, bolts on, no problems. Also lowered the car with CPP 1.5" lowering springs in front. Used stock spindles and a 26" diameter tire. I don't think I'd want the front bumper any lower. Rear was done with 2" lowering springs from Ecklers. The ride height is just about where I wanted it to be.

On my 50's-60's Chevys , I found 35psi in front tires made up for power steering, and gave a good upper body workout.
