where do i find type a tran fluid or what should i use

Dextron III Mercon is what I used to replace it in my Hydramatic.

 

Different trans will require different fluids.
Ask your search engine: what trans fluid for xyz transmission?

first tell us if it's manual or automatic...then tell us if it's a ford or something else..then tell us what year it is.

 

Use either Valvoline Max life as a synthetic, or The Dex/Mer blend.

dexron III should work, it replaces dexron, which replaced type A, which is what they used back then.
