Technical Torque tube question

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by JNKYARDDOG_1, May 31, 2020.

  1. Why would someone cut the inside of a torque tube at the axle end with a torch?
Or are they made this way...
Yes cut all the way around that way

My guess is it's a late '32 or '33-'34 torque tube bolted to a '35 & later rear axle.
Early tube needs to have material removed to fit over larger bearing on the later rear axle. A common procedure.
Usually this clearance is gained by grinding. Your tube had the cave man approach.

  3. Thnx, That answers a LOT... The truck is a 34 and had juice brakes on it, But I know those could be changed. Now time to try and decipher what year the rear end is for bearings and such..

And believe me there has been a bunch of caveman stuff that had to be fixed..
