Here are a few pictures of the 65 Comet 4 door gasser that my dad put the straight axle under this winter. It handles very well and looks alot better. I made the first two passes in it to shake it down to make sure it was safe and ready for the young man who owns the car. The young owner jumped in and ran it 5 more time today and was as happy as could be. We had a strong wind but it still ran 12.90 at 107 m.p.h. so we were happy with that. still needs some more tuning but it ready to head to Thompson Ohio at the first of June for the Gasser Reunion.

Here are a few pictures from today.

    That's great!
Have any static pictures of the car?

I'm thinking of giving my 60 F-100 a gasser vibe.

The axle is out of a 48 F100, the spindles are from a 35 Ford car and the brakes are from Speedway for those spindles. That is the 65 289 that came with that car, I used a HiPo 289 solid lifter cam and it has Edlebrock heads on it. Still used the 8 inch rear end that came with the car. Here are a few pictures that i posted before.

That "tuner" appears to be the new 361hp 6.0 V8 powered Pontiac G8. It is supposed to run 13 flat at about 106 mph so it would have been a close race! The Pontiac might have even won if someone were sleeping at the line (lol)!

WAY COOL Comet. Didn't even notice it was a more door until I looked at the closer up pics. Very, very nice car. Love it.

The Comet beat the G-8 with no problem, slicks vs street tires it was no contest there, but if he hooked up it would have been a good race to watch, The G-8 ran a 13.60 on that run.

Great! Thanks! I was loading motors in my 65 4dr parts car to go to the crusher for some extra bucks and my buddy that helps me race saw how bad this car looks. Now he is planning to build it and race it! LOL!

    That's damn cool.

I love the fact that it's still running a 289, and pretty damn good, at that. I also really like the hood and headlight deletes/mesh.

Thanks for the photos and info. Is he running a C4? 4 speed?

Thanks for the nice comments. This was my old car and this young man was wanting to get into drag racing and his buddies were doing tuners and Mustangs and he liked my Falcon and I had the Comet that I was driving on the street and I made him and his dad a deal on it. They did all of the body work and the 289 I built prior to them buying it and my dad did the straight axle conversion over the winter for them. It uses a C4 trans with a TCI reverse manual valve body and a 2000 r.p.m. stall converter. He loves the old style cars and he has had a good time beating some cars that think because its a four door it is slow.

I dig this car the most.

I dig the 289 and everything about this machine.

    Way to go.

This machine proves you don't need a pile of cash or a two door to jump into the "gasser" genre.

It has a 4.11 gear and a 26 inch tall tire. Shift at 6000 r.p.m's and go across the 1/4 mile stripe 5900-6000 r.p.m's. The engine can turn alot more and its still pulling hard but with a new driver in it and to keep the life of the engine it works better shifting lower.
