TO Bearing Adjustment

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by flt-blk, Nov 13, 2011.

  1. I can't remenber how to adjust the thowought bearing.

My old GM Book says to adjust it so it has light pressure on the pressure plate fingers.

I remember leaving a little gap between the bearing and the fingers so it does not spin when the clutch is not engaged.

    Which is it?

This is a SBC with a Tremec TKO600 in my 59 ElCamino.
Had to pull the transmission for some repairs when my wife got confused between 4th and Reverse on the freeway. Clutch disc was also a little thin so I replaced the Disc, Pressure Plate, and T/O bearing. Trying to get it all back together.

The term I always heard was toe play. The clutch is adjusted to give an inch to an inch and a half of toe play at the pedal pad. The pedal pad should be able to go down an inch before the TO bearing contacts the clutch fingers. The bearing should not spin when the clutch pedal is out and you are driving in gear.

  3. That's what I thought.
    Thanks Tommy.
