Not sure if this qualifies as crazy: A couple of "Remodeled A" Headlight bars and some steel bar bent up in the front and a '40 Ford front over rider in the back.

For the last 40+ years, I've built and driven what I like, regardless of whether or not it was unique or common.

38 dodge bk.jpg 38 Dodge ft.jpg 38 dodge.jpg I think this qualifies; '38 Dodge. 289 Ford engine. All home built except seat upholstery and carpet.

Back when I started my 27 roadster, front 1/2 of a touring. I had a picture of this car as my desktop. I liked it then and still do. Silent rick has the 27 now.

  9. I like it.

It has a late 40's European sports car look.

Interesting thread . Lots of folks don't have the extra cash it takes to own a fleet of cars. Nor do they live in an area where a banger or like powered car is feasible. They, if they can afford it, they build one car as traditional as possible AND as reliable and safe, (hence the afore mentioned hidden disc brakes), cause many times you will get in a bind driving in today's cell phone laden traffic and people who just can't drive. Sometimes those factors plus many others, limit the " out of the box thinking" for many of us. Then it's also an opinion thing as well. I don't care for a dual headlight setup on a 32 or a 32 grill on a 34 ford. Just not my bag. I get tired of seeing those examples. Build what you like and don't stop and look at mine. It might be a total waste of your time. It's built for me and no one else, no matter what anybody else thinks ,I like it.

    homogenized
When describing something that has become less unique and forced to conform to a more predictable set of standards and/or ideas.

Here is my friend Mel's 34 5 window that he's had since the age of 15, he is now 67. I mentioned in a previous thread, (http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/fall-issue-of-rod-and-kulture-34-coupe-survivor.994918/), about his car in a spread in the current issue of Rod & Kulture. Mel has always built outside the box and probably doesn't even know the meaning of the word, "homogenized".
His enjoyment comes from the challenge of putting an idea into realty.

Some of his other cars are a 31 roadster with a Pontiac flathead straight 8 with a Latham supercharger w/2x2's.
1956 Chevrolet 4 door hardtop with I6 and it also has a Latham supercharge with 1x4.

The OP says he's seeing a lot of the same kinds of builds lately. I say he must looking in the wrong places or not enough places. The build styles today are more widely varied than ever before. Go to TROG, Billetproof, Hamb Drags, NHRA Reunion, Detroit Autorama, the Revival and SEMA and then say with a straight face that today's builds are same 'ol-same 'ol. People tend to only see what it is that they are looking at.

I think you are completely missing my point in starting this thread. I think there is far too much consulting going on . I wanted to see if anyone is just doing things the way they want weather or no it is hip. I think we should all build exactly what we want. I've had car that looked like 90% of the other cars and I was still happy with them. Just think we are forgetting some very cool traditional build styles .

If you want to think outside the milk carton, start with something other than a Ford product! Or in our case, flip the common "Chevy in a Ford" formula.

1930 Chevy with a 52 flatty. Will run full fenders when finished. Fenders are out of the box too nowadays.

Damn dude where in the hell did you pick up that. I never said anything to that effect. All I did was post the definition of homogenized according to the urban dictionary and a spread about my buddy's car.

I think he somehow mixed you up with the original poster. WillyKJr can and should edit that.

I did, that's a very cool car IMHO. This is the roadster I have now. I just bought it in Oct. changes are being made over the winter. Biggest ones are wheels and tires.

    I built this in 2007-8 .... yes, outside-the-box .... was a riot to drive.
    Shortened the body 15"
    Chopped it 4"
    Custom roof ..... custom everything
