Hey all... Looking for inexpensive ways to drop my old 49 chevy a few inches. Replace springs? Lowering blocks? Any tips appreciated. Someone on here recently said flipping the leaf springs???

Shorter shocks on the front is a good idea. (Rear shock length will stay the same.)

Almost as low as your avatar car. Would be ideal. Are the front wheel wells cut out on your avatar? Looks great!

i don't know anything about that car i just found a picture of it on google lol but that car is most likely bagged. you can only go so low in the front with fixed suspension, i measured on my car witch has stock suspension in the front and i could only lower it 2 1/2 inches to have full range of motion turning. and i lowered it 4 inches in the back (and id like to get it lower) and might have to c notch the frame a little bit. good luck lowering your ute.

make your pickup bed from 1/4" plate. that ought to lower it quite a bit.

The Pinto/Bobcat 8542 Moog is about 3/4 inch shorter and 20 pounds softer than the stock spring. They are on EBay for 23 bucks a pair.

If you cut it 1.4 inches you would have about a 2.5 inch drop and end up with a 356 Spring Rate vs 340 Stock. Cutting the stock springs 2 inches will drop you about 2 inches because the spring rate goes from 340 - 396 after cutting.

I'd be conservative and cut a half coil at a time. Your old springs may be sagging. You can always cut more if it's not enough but you can't put it back.

Remember to put the wheels on and roll it back and forth so it squats to it's new ride height before cutting more.

Yes, they are about .2 bigger in diameter so should fit in pretty easy. I would cut 1 3/8 inch off them.
