Beach rods, rolling tiki shrines, longboard haulers, and buggies unite.
Let's see how many Hambers have sand in their shorts and salt water in their veins. Yowza!

Here's my buddy's 54 chevy wagon. The one pic is from last year. It has the old door lettering.

It may be forsale soon too.

Does this count? Not exactly "surf" but built for the sea shore set. The only one known, body by Bridgeport, a subsidiary of Dietrich.

I tried to do a CA surfer theme on my car, but it really must not work too well because it is lost on people and nobody has ever said anything to me about making the connection...then again what does a landlocked surfer who can't surf know anyway LOL.

California Gold Metallic Paint (yes, the official paint name)
    Moon surf board mirror
    Tiki shifter
Voodoo man/tiki pinstripes on the decklid
    and so on....

Grumpy, your buddies wagon is looking good. he going to be at Columbus with it.

both of my rides I consider surf inspired. My sedan is based on the innocent early 60's when guys wore stripped shirts, listened to the Beach Boys. their hotrod were simple a dropped front, yank the fenders, no chop and toss a board in the rear.. (the opposite of the badboy hotrods most guys are building today)..

  10. Sweet 54. Love the door lettering. How much will it go for?

    I'm not sure.
I know he laughed at a guy who offered him 16K cash for it. So I'm guessing alittle more than that.

And, wagons shouldn't run like this one either. It's real strong. Almost too strong.

  12. Merc. Got any shots of yours? I'd like to see it. I know the feeling regarding the landlocked Hodad. I get a lot of headscratchers with my burb. But don't lose faith. Every time I get to thinking it makes no sense to anyone but me, somebody loses their mind when they see it and picks up on just about every reference point I put into it. www.1965classiccar.com

  15. Bad Rod,
I flat out love that rod. Saw it two years back at Mooneyes party.
Met the guy who owned it at the last Lone Star Round Up here in Austin. Awesome car. Cool dude. I think he sold it to a guy who lives in Florida.
Does that sound right? Serious props to that car.

Wow great minds think alike. I was just about to start a thread asking for surf inspired rides.

I have a little wagon project I'm working on right now and I need some more ideas.

BTW: Just watched a great documentary called RIDING GIANTS (2004). Lot's of cool old surf videos with cars.

I love surf and beach inspired cars! Especially station wagons! Though, I get alot of friendly teasing because I absolutely hate being out in the sun! :D I think my interest stems more from the late evening polynesian luaus - tiki torches, native drums and throwing virgins into angry volcanoes! :)

about a year or so, there was a CK Deluxe that had on the cover and a spread inside about a guy who built tiki inspired surf wagon. Merc I think...I haven't been able to find my issue, so I don't know the date or which issue it was, but it was BAD ASS! it was a blue woody, with the bamboo headliner inside, and of course a surf board rack. I loved it! There's nothing cooler than a tiki inspired ride. I've been debating doing it to my 53 chevy. But I'm a huge tiki nutcase and collector anyway.

Here's a couple more of Shane's wagon, pre the new door lettering.

He gets shit for having a surf wagon in the heart of the rust-belt, but..cool is cool.

It has tiki torches in the back that lite up and look real, bamboo here and there, and old burlap bags as floor mats, covering the carpet.
Plus alot of other cool details.

do an online search of some of the smaller board makers. I live in detroit, but my family is from florida. I wanted a surf board that was cheap (not too much surfing on lake st. clair) that I could take with me when I went down there. I bought mine in cocoa beach brand new for $105. 6 footer tri-fin.
