I can't believe someone would let this go....I paid $1.00 for it.....A DOLLAR!! It will look great on the shelf until I hear about some old timer (or young timer?) needing his/her hat back. Maybe donate it back to the 200 mph club? I was thinking it might have been an extra hat that got lost but don't they keep a tight grip on these things?
    Crazy man....

  5. Someone must have passed away, and his family dumped it.

Very cool, but I wouldn't feel right wearing it.

Wear it and drive a Ford Fiesta to Bonneville. When people talk shit, point to the hat and ask if they have one.

    That's what i'd do. But i'm a douche.

Or trade it for a night with Jessica Alba and Scarlett Johansson

  9. My jaw hit the floor, I can't imagine any one dumping one of those hats at a thrift store.

if I found that I'd wear it if my head wasn't so big. I gotta buy hats at the military surplus stores.

Great save, Like a lot of others I'd like to know the history of it and how it ended up at the thrift store.
But as we all well know, one person's treasure is another person's clutter to get rid of what ever history is behind it.

At least now it will sit in a proper place of honor on your shelf.

Very cool. Just think how many people walked by that hat and said I wonder what a Bonneville is?

I think whoever it belonged to is from so-cal due to the fact that I bought a Los Angeles County Raceway jacket ($3.00) on the same visit. It was just a weird coincidence that both items were there at the same time.

  19. Reminds me of the perfect Goldenrod, Summers Brothers team shirt I bought at an antique clothing store in Santa Barbara in the early 80's. When I needed money for parts for my A coupe I told myself I would have to sacrifice some stuff and sold it (very cheap). Been kicking myself, hard, ever since. Cool score on the hat! Everyone else that has one paid way more than you.

If the person who earned that hat passed and his family dumped it at the dollar store I wonder what was parked behind the store:rolleyes:

You cannot wear that hat. Those are earned. And hard earned.

But, of course, if you are a total dickhead by all means wear it. Just don't wear it to Bonneville. There aren't many trees there but I'm sure somewhere will be found to string you up.

Hang it on your wall and wonder who earned it and how tough was it to get that hat.
To wear that hat puts you in the same league as the dumb shits who get a car built for them and then brag about how they built it themselves. You nod politely and mutter to yourself "What a dipshit".

Take a real close look at it, it could be a donation from the embroiderer.
If there are any defects that's probably the case. They get tax write-offs
    for donating there defected goods.
