Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by trades707, Feb 27, 2022.

  1. Hmmmm. . . . . . how come we can discuss late model steering columns?

Because a 68 part is just a carry over from 65?

They were around in 63 on some cars, and are totally inappropriate for traditional hot rods...but possibly ok for customs.

I'm surprised the discussion has gone on this long :)

Well, at least it's not an Ididit. The name makes me laugh. If it was named Ididn't I'd feel better about it.

hmmmm. Remove the external 3spd set up and swap over to the small diameter GM no shifter or key switch tilt column.
I have one of those from an 63-4 Riviera.
    just a thought.
    maybe for a custom.
Hot rods need em in the floor

Not a tilt column but a tilt wheel.
    Food for thought.

Many of those can be had in era-correct versions, too!

Just put "fat man steering wheel" into your search engine of choice and have a look.

There are a lot of choices.

  10. The 'typical' tilt column we think about is from a full sized car or truck, but what about a compact, mid sized car or small pickup. They might have a smaller jacket that would lends themselves to mounting your shift mechanism to the outside. Avoid one with the ignition switch and 4-way flash activator.
    Good luck.
