Thread Ratings....Let's Please Do Away With Them!!!

Discussion in 'Questions & Suggestions' started by BloodyKnuckles, Dec 5, 2010.

  1. I'm spent!

Why the fuck do people rate great threads with one star. Classifieds are frustrating when I see the stars.

I think they are a horrible distraction. Are they really needed? I could do without them.

I know that I'm not the only one that feels this way. I would love to hear what others think.

Thanks for listening to my rant.

BTW...I'll be the first to rate this with one star just to beat you guys who will do it out of spite.

I don't notice a lot of things. Doesn't mean they should all go away.

I don't see the purpose in them, so I ignore them.

I reckon you'll have to ask Ryan why we have them.

  5. Thanks man.

That's funny right there! I think the rating system is for legitimate "likes" (5 star) and for drama queens (1 star). I ignore them.

On another forum I used to frequent a friend of mine would post and within minutes someone would flag it with one star... regardless of what the post was about. Of course the person tagging the pic was anonymous but it was so childish. It served no purpose other than making one person feel better about themselves by cutting another down.

If you want a good laugh look at some of the long threads (controversial threads are the best) and read the tags at the bottom.

  8. I remember reading that post. That's what really does it for me. If you don't like a price then just move on.

The ratings just don't flow with the quality of the HAMB. It really belongs more on some other OT car site.

    Just spent.

    Much ado about nothing.

  13. I'll step up and admit that if some dumb-ass is bumping his ad to the top every day, I give his thread a one star rating no matter whether the price is right or not. As far as rating threads in the discussion forum, I would hardly ever do that unless the topic is so OT or irrelevant that it was just foolish to bring it up here. Usually those threads take care of themselves as people either flame the poster to death or don't respond at all and the thread fades away.

  14. Can't say I have ever even noticed them till now.
So obviously they don't rate as being of much use .. :D

this is pretty much what I use them for,
I have given five star ratings but can't remember giving any for less.
mostly I use them as a moderating aide.
if I see a one star rating I will look into it to see if the thread needs closing or deleting.
if it has a five star rating it may have valuable content and deserve recognition.
the star rating system is a less severe way for members to bring attention to a thread without hitting the report thread function.

    Thats what I see.

One star immediate flag for moderation.

Five star maybe check it out, rarely am I dissapointed.

  20. Paul, I completly respect that answer. There couldn't have been a better answer. Anything to make the moderators job a little easier. You guys have your work cut out for you.

I'll quit my cry babying for a while.

    Thanks Paul.
