There is probably 14" or so of set back and I sat the engine down between the frame rails to get a straighter drive-line. I suppose the set back would have taken it out of the Gasser class back in the day because it's more than 10% of the 100" wheelbase. I guess that would make it an Altered, huh?
Per the rules I recall in the early to mid-60s, yes. BTW, you have a great looking shop to build your Henry J in! - EM
I feel you with the no heat thing, always fun trying to bolt things together when your fingers are numb. Chassis looks really good.
I guess I'll mount the radiator next and decide if I'm going to use the long ladder bars I fabbed up or re-do them. They came out sort of heavy. I need heat or warm weather to paint brackets and stuff.
That's my down fall too, I keep it at 40 degrees but to paint anything I have to start a day ahead with the furnace plus a torpedo heater. That was the main reason I just had my axle and springs powder coated, because of temps, in fact I just brought my spindles in the house to paint them last week.
My pole barn is 48'X80' and about impossible to heat, up on this windy mountain. I went with powder coat on my frame because of the cold, like you did. My panel truck frame is at the powder coaters as we speak.
Ran the rear brake line through the boxed frame using 1/4" fuel line to prevent abrasion on the 3/16" NiCop brake line. A little silicon sprayed in the 1/4" hose allowed the 3/16" to slide through. I couldn't get the hose and brake line through the driver side due to through-frame steering box bolts so when I drop the body on I'll run it across the firewall under the cowl lip that Henrys have.
I mounted the radiator. I used a couple of stake pockets made for the sides of trailers from Tractor Supply. I welded a flat bar to them and drilled it to use the existing former engine mount holes in the shock towers. The stake pockets with the foam tape inside fit nice and snug. I welded up a T using flat bar. The radiator sits on it with foam tape and EPDM rubber siliconed on the bottom of the radiator. The T-bar mounts in two existing holes, front and back of the cross member. It's snug and with hose sure isn't going anywhere but I'll fab a couple of small diameter pieces of all thread to pin it down in case of a roll over.
Pinned the radiator down with some stainless all thread and stainless hardware. I left room for a future electric fan just in case the mechanical six blade doesn't work out.
I didn't like the billet style Wilwood split system master cylinders and I couldn't find an adapter to convert the verticle hole Wilwood pedal to a cast iron horizontal hole master cylinder. I had to make one.
Got some more done on The Little Kaiser Henry J. Early Mustang gas tank fills the area nice and they are cheap to buy new repro. Nice flat shape too. Fabbed a steel frame that goes under the entire edge of the tank. Scuffed the tank and coated with bed liner. Yes the trans cooler would be in a vulnerable place but I'll be fabbing some drive-shaft loops.
