Good spotting....the voltage regulator has an old NOS Prestolite cover to hide the ugly of the new one. Keith has a lot of tricks up his sleeve. As for the Tach- I had an old SW Tach that needed to be cable driven, Keith knew that this particular year generator and rear tach drive from a corvette would work just right. If you go back to see of the earlier posts you will see the tach.

very nice build gentlemen! i appreciate all the pics as i continue to gather knowledge to apply to my build. question on the frame welting, do you glue it onto the frame to make it stay to the contour like that? i have the new welting, just not at that point yet.

So, the body went on the frame today. Here's proof:

And some images once she was on:

The color is a custom mix that Mearns put together... It's killer and very close to Pantone 448 C - which Time magazine decided was the ugliest color in world. No shit. Details here and you can see a pantone chart next to a test panel here:

Pretty damned stoked about both the recognition from Time as well as finally getting the body on the chassis... This car is going to come together fast now!

    Kinda like Winterleaf, right?

I think my local parts store paint mixer's head would explode if I walked in and requested a PMS color.

It's darker... It's closest to an old VW color from the 50's called "Texas Brown."

You know when you eat mexican food and your stomach reacts weird to the refried beans and you get the shits? That's the exact color... "Doo Doo Brown."

In all seriousness though, it's a fantastic color. In the shade, it looks Doo Doo Brown... and then in the sun, you can see some Olive in it. I absolutely love it.

My full fendered roadster, after I get the highboy done, is gonna be a chocolatey brown kinda like the old VW color. I can already picture it.........

  8. You realize, from here on out, given the worldwide reach of this place, no matter how much John might try to claim otherwise this color will forever be known as "Doodoo brown"...............................why not?:D

I named the color "Downtown Texas Brown". Then I saw the article on the worlds ugliest color, which makes me laugh every time I think of it, and there's Ryan campaigning for Doo Doo Brown (thanks buddy). I can tell it will be a close race getting people to agree on a name.

    Vote here:

    A) DOWNTOWN TEXAS BROWN.
    B) THE WORLDS UGLIEST COLOR
    C) DOO DOO BROWN.

    PLEASE VOTE FOR A.

  10. After taking a poll of the employees in my office (aka me), we have determined the following:

    - Despite having never (yet) been to Texas, I have travelled extensively in South America. My poop has never been that colour.
    - Despite Time Magazine and all of Australia to the contrary, I do not find that colour to be particularly ugly.

Therefore, with no other option, I throw my hat in the ring for Downtown Texas Brown. :D

Totally agree, and it seems to match up well with the direction that the car is going.
I suppose like many here my appreciation of colors has changed over the years.
Not saying that these types of colors are trendy but I think the HAMB and all that it stands for may have a little to do with them becoming popular, at least in some circles.
Myself, I have grown to like the browns, greens, and variations that we have been seeing.
I guess it has a lot to do with the type of car it's being used on whether (I) think it's appropriate and of course it only has to please the cars owner anyway.
I went to the LARS some years back as a spectator when I was planning my roadster project, and I gotta say; I would have welcomed more of these kind of colors.
After seeing (nearly) every other deuce hiboy painted red, it got kinda old.
Also very glad that the whole 90's pastel fad is behind us.

And the dog laying on the floor looks up at the crew and says "yo dudes I'm trying to sleep here"

But really my first thought when I saw the photo, without reading anything, was that color looks like shit.

So it's got to be a C vote from me.:p

What exhaust tube diameter are you using...?
Any shots of the rear end before the gas tank/body went on of the routing of the rear pipes around the QC and up along under the rear frame rails?

  19. Do I detect a traditional hotrod color trend? Or maybe a conspiracy??;)

The Mearns coupe is "downtown TX brown/do-do brown".
Darryl Hollenbeck's 2016 AMBR winner is "rotten avocado green".

This is becoming a really nice car. I don't know if it's primarily Keith's vision, but he certainly has The Look.
