...and the Worlds only DOHC Chevrolet as far as we know. Two updraft Winfields. Notice the throttle linkage shaft traversing internally in the manifold fabrication, and the throttle arms down to the carbs and the actuating arm on the end. This engine was built in 1960, raced, shelved until recently, has been revamped, and is currently running on the test stand.

That DOHC Chevy is outstanding, and the only way to describe the throttle linkage is exceptional! I'm looking at this on my i Phone right now, but I think the finish on the head, etc. is cool too. Looks like scraped ways as on a machine tool, right?

Correct, you are seeing flaking or flowering as is/was done on machine tool ways. More attractive to my way of thinking than the more common, but rare, "engine turning". Both the intake manifold, and both cam carrier housings and attached front bearing carriers are done this way.

If you look closely on the Studebaker pictures, you can see another of his throttle shafts that comes through the firewall supported by a ball bearing in the firewall left of and near the bottom of the barrel valve, parallel to the lower fins on the engine side cover. The bushed bracket with grease fitting on the block of the rigidly mounted engine is to the right and not visible in the photo. The item just to the lower right corner of the barrel valve and just below the blue fuel fitting is the throttle arm from that shaft up to the jack shaft that operates each throttle runner, individually with adjustable links for flow balance, in addition to the adjustable link to the barrel valve.

My center carb is primary, front and rear are secondaries, progressive linkage, I got the center carb adjusted so I could set idle and timing, broke the motor in and have 3 or 4 hours run time on it, Linkage took a little thought , but went much easier than I thought it would. Front and rear will need to be fine tuned to my power band, and rpm. I will get any bugs worked out in the spring. The worst part about float level adjustment is every time I have to pull a bowl I get a little nervous, if I crack a small logo bowl I have others, if I crack a big logo bowl, it takes for ever to find them. Motor will idle nicely at 750, good response, I had to block off some of the vacuum ports for the old Ford distributor advance system. No real horror stories yet
