i had to hold Scarlett while he welded. but we bonded over my glasses and beard, so it's all good. She's cuter than moose anyhow.

oh, anybody have ideas or suggestions for a panhard bar? it's gotta be level with the rear end with the weight of the car on it, yeah? so how do i plan for that without the body on it?

mark, should you include the weight of a full tank of fuel as well?

  20. Do you need a panhard bar? If your shackles are not crazy long and your spring is the right length, I would think you should be ok? (At least that's what I told myself when I didn't put one on the truck )

Level is ideal, most I've seen, even in factory applications are not exactly level. Many of them, including the early ford ones have a bend in them to clear "whatever" which usually equates to a non-level bar. In the few that I've installed, I made an adjustable mount on the frame side so I could raise or lower that end to get the bar close to level.

If your spring fits the rear perches and weight of the car, you shouldn't really need the phd bar unless you're using the long, rubber bushed 42-48 rear shackles/spring.

Here's a stock early ford frame side mount... as promised.

thanks for the info Andy. i can't imagine how the stock 42-48 panhard could have been level given where the mount is on the rear end.

anyway, i have a stock 46 rear that i trimmed the spring to fit the 34 cross member. so i am thinking i might need one. the adjustable bracket on the frame side is a good idea.

You may want to take a step backward and put some of it back together so you can plan it out right the first time...it'll save you a lot of the time and headaches later!

I was kind of surprised when you said you were already blowing it apart, with some of the fab work I saw you had left...but what do I know! ;)

well, now that the d/s hoop is done, it will go back together some more. but the body really had to come off for some of the stuff that i've been doing.

  30. I had to shave yesterday. Too itchy. Why not try a dead perch out back, cleaner looking than a panhard bar?
