  1. OK, we all use tools, right? So today being Sunday, I went to the shop to put a little time in on our roadster project. The weather was great and heated up to the low 60's. Needed some primer so I took a break and went down to our small town parts store - the only one open today that would have what I was after. Stopped by the tool area and there before me was the Vise Grip section. They had three of these babys. "I just had to look" so I walked over and picked them up. OK, two of these had the usual bright package with the proud red and blue label saying "Made in USA" right there on the front. I felt relieved alright! But wait! The third one had the same packaging but without, you guessed it, the "Made in USA" logo. Flipping it over, on the back in tiny black letters it said, you guessed it again, "Made if China".
Kinda pissed me off all over again! The Vise Grip plant in Dewitt, Nebraska reportedly closed the end of October and the 300+ employees got the pink slip! Wonder if these job losses are included in the just announced 530,000 US job losses posted for last month? Just in time for the Hollidays! I hope the suits at Irwin Tool and Newell Rubbermaid (who own Vise Grip)remember this when they get their yearly bonus or make their purchases for the family at Christmas. I for one, will never buy another new vise grip product again and I hope others won't either. I want them to be haunted, just like Ebinezer Scrooge, by the ghost of Jacob Marley.

  3. And time marches on. Soon, we'll have nothing BUT Harbor Freight shit to use. Get your tools at yard sales and auctions if you want US-built. It's ahrd to find much of anything made here in the way of tools, or anything else.

Damn, this sounds like at least ten threads we've had lately...

looks like everybody will be taking better care of their visegrips. Corporate bastards should get what they deserve !! American workers and consumers soon won't be able to buy a damn thing with any quality or any pride of having it made here. Pure bullshit and everyone involved has been sitting back watching it happen for years and they still let this shit happen.

I live 40 miles from DeWitt where the Peterson family started Vise Grip about 85 years ago. As the family grew older they sold the business with I have heard a promise that the factory would stay as it was. So much for that. Used to have a public store where you could buy products at a discount. The closing was really an economic blow to the area. I've heard that Irwin is screwing the employees around with their unemployment and pensions. Ain't corporate greed wonderful?

...taking care of your USA make vise grips is right!
The only good visegrips I have are circa 1960...
inherited from my father, and used regularly since then.
Every other pair I've seen or used that wasn't made in USA,
    was POS.
Better go search out a spare pair.
    Or two...

The only other choice is a socialist or communist state where all companies are state run and everyone works for the government. Then there are still the elite and then everyone else. While I can't stand the greedy bastards, the alternative is worse.
