Answered an ad on CL about a $20000 1932 ford.... on a whim not even thinking it would turn out like it did. The guy had trouble listing the ad in the beginning and I'm sure the price turned a lot of people off... when my buddy Mike sent me the ad we laughed and I thought the guy hit his head really hard. But I thought, maybe he might have hit too many zeros. But neither was the case but the price was way more affordable that I thought. He tells me over the phone that he didn't want to part it out and they were pretty firm on the price be because they had done their homework. I told him I wanted all of it and made an offer. He said he had to think about it. The reality was his Pop passed away and it was up to him and his 3 sisters to sell some stuff to pay for the lawyer and probate on the estate. Since they didn't have a title on the 32 it wasn't listed and the lawyer suggested they sell it to help recoup some funds. So I studied the pics of on the CL ad and really thought it was worth the money, we left early this morning to go look and I took cash and an empty trailer. Needless to say we loaded it up and shook hands. His Pop passed away suddenly a few months back, I knew before I even saw the coupe that it was gonna be named after him... hence the "Elmore" 32 Coupe. Gary Elmore purchased the coupe body way back in the early 60s. It had stayed exactly the same for over 55 years. He had done nothing to it. The roof was cut off sometime before he purchased it. We don't know if the roof was a donor, cut to make a roadster, or if it set on it's roof and someone cleaned it up with a torch. But it had a ok frame that someone tried to Z and did a poor job, I think I might be able to save it. I'll have to look at it more. It had a ton of galvanized sheets of tin in sticking out of it, Ryan the son I purchased it from said he raked and cleaned the inside and kept looking for more parts... when he suddenly found a very nice grill under all the tin on top the dirt. This grill is so super nice, it still has some original black paint, all the bars are perfectly straight and has all the trim on it! I also got the original hood, seat frame and a set of 682-J headlight thrown in.

It'll be a lot of work, but I never thought a 32 would be affordably in my price range. But it was my day to scoop up a good deal! Plans are to make it pretty much traditional style build with buick finned drums, 60s vintage sbc, manual 4 speed trans, high clearance wheels, 9" rear, 36 rear bones, 4" chop, drop axle and burn rubber!

  9. Never ask a woman her age. Never ask a guy here how much he paid for his car. I'll never understand either of them.

I paid $6 for it... piecing it out would bring more than that, so I figured I was money ahead and I've wanted a deuce for a long time, just never thought it would be affordable.

    Great save.

As a point of interest 6000 dollars today is the equivalent of 781 dollars in 1965. I wonder how much it was worth back then.

Yep I'm on the hunt for the roof parts, hoping to find someone that might have one they're not using or the location of a ravine find that is rotted up to the middle of the doors!! :D

Looks like a very fixable car, I'd say well worth the money paid. It pays to follow up on those types of leads, you never know what a friendly conversation and a reasonable offer will yield.

I saw that add too. Assumed the owner would be pretty hard to deal with. Good on you!

Tell you what I'd be building there; a chopped-Carson-topped cabriolet. Sweet baby Jesus.

    Hahaha

I just want a chopped coupe that looks like it was built in the early 60s. He had a Eelco dragster pedal in the garage there near it, but wouldn't sell it just yet, I want to run it also in the coupe. I'm going back to dig through the metal piles and see if I can find any more treasures!!
