DiRico's Merc is a perfect execution of a tasteful traditional custom. And John, your first assignment is a huge success, and welcome aboard. I am anxious to see more of your work, and more great features like this, Ryan.
Thanks for the opportunity Ryan! Glad we made it happen so fast. Hope you all enjoy the article and photography.
Less can be more, and here it is. Dave's Merc is a flawless example of an era custom. Dave's a helluva nice guy and drives the hell out of this car. He and I caravanned down to Jalopyrama one year, and we've made more than a few trips to Wendy's in this Merc from Lead East. There's no wrong anywhere on this car, a mark of superb styling.
..........................I remember seeing the car at an early Jalopyrama (maybe when it was still at the Glen Burnie Armory?) and the car is just as perfect in person as in the photos.
I've always said the Hirohata Merc is my favorite custom 49-51... but maybe since almost every merc is chopped, this car is a little more unique because the builder showed restraint. At any rate, I love it.
Really good stuff, John. I showed these to my buddy who was a Naval photographer and he likes them very much. Come to think of it, you guys are very similar. If I ever get my car sorted out, I'll bring it by with him in it and you guys can talk cameras/locations. He currently is photographing ultra-nerdy microbiology things that I understand nothing about.
After reading and commenting on this earlier this morning, I found myself on eBay looking for the old AMT 49 Mercury kit...
Another perfect example (see Modified Production thread) for you young turds out there, that a chop is not needed to look cool.
I still can't get over the photography. Just so well done. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
