I'm curious, what did he do for a living? He must have been wealthy, even in his youth.

Guess it just doesn't pay to be an old time car guy......Bob Hirohata,, Mickey thompson get murdered and so little happens..............Dale Sr runs himself into a wall, and we never hear the end of it.

The Pope and a couple of American tourists just got shot the day before, so that's where the news was.

  10. Anyone ever notice how real posts turn into stupid bullshit babble alot more often than not lately? Trust me, there will be moronic replies to this post i'm sure. Levity has its place , but when a post, for example, starts out asking about a trans/motor combo and ends up talking about Fonzies underwear, I mean c'mon, gimme a break! Am I the only one noticing this waste of bandwidth of a trend ?

Back to the subject that obviously no one knows anything about,
    Who Shot Bob?

(And it's not quite a Haiku because it doesn't relate the season.)

  15. Underwear bandwidth? I dunno -- inch, maybe inch and a quarter. It might depend on circumference.

The way that I heard the story, from George Barris is this.

Bob's family owned parking lots in downtown L A. Bob witnessed a crime of some type (can't remember what it was) and testified against the criminals who ende up in jail. Bob was then murdered sometime after that. I believe that it was gang related.

That's the story, at least the way I heard it.

    Hey,

The "story" I received was related to Mr. Hirohata's penchant for
gambeling, and unpaid debts. He was shot execution style.
I do not know how close the above stands to the truth, and know
even less about the late Mr. Hirohata's character, and do not
    mean any disrespect.
As for Haiku, shit! I've yet ta figger out Cowboy Poetry.

This seems to always happen when the weather gets cold less time working on the cars so the creative energy gets poured out in the form of "creative writing"

:( According to Rodders Journal article "Bob Hirohata was shot and killed execution style on May 14, 1981. The murder was never solved."

so,if it's new information to the reader, who cares when the thread took place. maybe he wasent even a member then. nobody said in 2006 this happend in 1981! what, we only get one chance to hear about things? what does the search button do, it brings up older threads.

  23. So true ... how many posts have I stumbled across that said something along the lines of "USE THE SEARCH FEATURE MORON" ... here someone clearly used the search feature and gets shit on for "dragging up an old post".

Too many clowns on this site wanting nothing more than to bitch about something meaningless.

As for this post, I had never seen it before, did not know Hirohata was murdered and actually found it interesting so (as shocking as this may seem to some) thanks for bringing it back up.

Thanks for bringing it back. I was not a member in '06 when it started. Somehow I had not heard (or don't remember is more likely) that he was murdered. His name is probably one of the top 10 custom car owners mentioned over the last 50 years. What a shame his life ended so tragically.

Murder remains unsolved,...Bob sold his Merc and apparently was into Corvettes at the time of his murder, lots of rumors, but few facts....point is that he did design and helped build one of the great Barris customs (he did the laminated plastic knobs that graced many Barris customs, for example)...RIP, Bob
