Your right we did have a cold front come through. I guessed I missed it. Could get down to at least 89' tonight. Better put the longhandles on. Could get chilly!

  2. I,ve been converting celsius to farenheit to see how hot it really is in texas compared to the southern states of oz. Last feb we got 117deg when half the pace burnt to the ground cos we have lots of trees here , but now we are in winter we got 26.5 yesterday. How would you good old boys handle that difference.

Ya made me look. The coldest temperature ever recorded in Texas was -23F in Tulia. That's half way between Amarillo and Lubbock, it figures. The highest was 120F in Seymour, 30 miles south of...................me. That's also no surprise.

And there can be some pretty big swings, pretty quickly. I can remember walking by the girls dorms at Texas Tech looking at the fine looking Texas girls sunbathing one afternoon, next morning there was 12" of snow on the ground.
    Larry T

BTW Tulia and Seymour are about 150 miles apart and both are farmland. It's not like one of them is in mountain peaks and the other in the desert.

    that's not too bad.
we go from a little hotter to a little cooler. the biggest issue with it is when You add in what are commonly know as "indexes"

    meaning, for example..
it may actually be 106 outside, but with the heat "index" (add humidity, lack of wind, and the fact that the sun is actually sitting on the roof of Your building) they will say that the there is a heat index of 10 degrees.

meaning, it only feels like 116. right.

and in the winter, adding in that same humidity, wind and complete lack of sun, it may be 4 outside, but with the index, it only feels like it's -08.

I think it's just a clever way to tell the good people of our majestic state that they really aren't burning or freezing thier asses off, it only feels like they are.

Is Willy Nelson still the king? Waylon thought so, and he just might be..

we just got back from spending 3 great days around Austin with
our 3 grand kids.. stayed at the comfort inn in Pflugerville, it was really a nice one, looked like it may have been just built,, I would recommend it for any that might need to stay in that area..

Hum, I thought Waylon sang about Bob Wills still being the king (don't matter who's in Austin).

When I lived in KC, MO, I remember getting a killer sunburn at a charity car wash on one day, then the next morning, it was about 29 degrees and we had an ice storm. I'm pretty used to it.

    Sun Down,
No problem. Waylon Jennings and Bob Wills are both from "a couple of towns over" from where I live. 'Course in this part of the state, that could be a couple hundred miles! Waylon Jennings was from Plainview and Bob Wills from Turkey.

  18. TO ALL NON-TEXANS.....Thanks for good heartedly lettin' us Texans vent. We're all trapped inside by our air conditioners with too much time on our hands. At first I feared all this would cause too many "move ins" but since you're all HAMBstrs, come on down!

I couldn't drink chewing tobacco with my mountain dew anymore after having enough of it myself...
Cracks me up folks referring to the western territories as Yankee Like when cubs start talking old school.
True story went just like this:
Rolling into St. Louis Mo. one night from the east fella on the c.b. says "lookit that aint she pretty"
I said "what, where is she?"
he said "right there, the arch"
I made the mistake of saying "yeah that's cool"
he says "what's wrong with you , that right there is a national treasure and of my home. Just what do you think is wrong with it?"
I said " I don't know, nothing I suppose but...maybe they could have made it bigger, look it's dwarfed by downtown."
...He then went into a tirade of how disrespectfull I was for being so un enthralled with it like it was and said:
"bet they ain't got nothing like that where your from do they"
and I said "Nope.......ain't big enough".
That blew his stack, I never laughed so hard at one of my own jokes...You had to have been there.

  29. Got some future in-laws from LA Californy visiting hre this week and they are amzed at the wide open spaces. Picked 'em up in Austin airport yetrday and as we were riding through town they wanted to know where the skyline was. I couldn't answer that since I bragged about all in Texas being so big. I told them that Austin is more cool than big that's why they decided to keep it short and friendly than big like Houston and Dal. We have all we need...culture, Continental club, Gary H., A.S.S., Luther, Jimmy V, da best Music, Shiner, artists, hot rods, bodyshops, flames, eats, 6th, eastsiders, meskins, white trash (me), Congress tweet, Walmart, Goodwill, nice folk, . and other stuff I can't think of right now. Now they want to move here.
