I had some of those years ago, (60's) I used the factory torque # for car or for stud dia. never had a problem. Back then and now, drive car short distance and re torque wheels, Make sure everything looks good regarding condition of threads, nuts, seat, etc. I always use a little never cease, back then a touch of grease. The fact it's an aluminium wheel has no factor on torque # IMO.

When you mount unilug wheels on the car, keep the lug nuts a bit loose, rotate the tires as you slightly cinch them down. This keeps them centered. Learned this on a set of 15X12 Cragars.

If you gave us a little more to go on....like a picture of the center of the wheel, so we can see the lug nut holes, and also a picture of the nuts and washers you are using.

I torque "mag" shank type nuts on aluminum wheels to about 70 if they are 7/16" studs, and 90 if they are 1/2" studs. As long as they're tight, they don't come loose. The suggestion to torque them more than once, is a good one. I re torque after the first short drive, and again, every now and then.

I have noticed, in my can of used mag lug nut washers, that many are badly squished or cupped. Some are also thicker and larger in diameter than others. So I would say that with unilug wheels quality washers are important.

Assume you are talking about standard type unilugs, not ETs etc.

  8. On my car, the aluminum slots are unilug. Some of the wheels only had 2 unilug washers and the rest were round! Presently I am changing it to steel smoothies and that problem will be solved. I had not noticed until I removed a wheel to try one of the smoothies. Luckily I didn't lose a wheel while driving it...

I had them on my Camaro in the early 80's. I used regular mag wheel nuts and washers. Didn't know any better, but made several trips back and forth from Phoenix to Sacramento without an issue.

I seem to recall seeing oblong looking washers for them hanging on AP store shelves though.
