Im going to u pull it tommorrow to get a 4x4 s-10 rear end, i have a 50 chevy car with stock 327 motor, 5 speed trans (from chev monza) rear end is a 55 chevy, car is lowered and im running reverse wheels and tires are rubbing a little inside the wheel well,so thats why i want to go to a narrower rear end, what year s-10 4x4 rear end should i be looking for? Does it really matter if its from a 2.8-4.3 motor?automatic or stick truck? The one i was looking at today is an early 80"s blazer. Thanks jeff

Mine was out of an late 80's blazer with an auto trans. I dont belive it matters between 4cyl. and 6cyl. maybe the ratio but thats all.

I am with 50Delux. The main (practically only) difference in them is the ratio. The 4x4 rearend may be a little lower geared for the application.

thank you very much for the information.

  6. I believe the 4X4 rears were a bit wider than the 2WD ones. Just measure overall width to make sure it's what you need to get the clearance required.

4x4 measure just under 60 inches hub to hub - 2WD measure 56 inches. When searching for mine, all I could find was 3:42's - never did find anything else. It, matched up with a T5, and my 52 poncho has turned into a great hiway cruiser !!!

I did an online search and it looks like rear disc brakes started in 1998.
