In trying to come up with a nice corner moulding for ROCKY's camper (I's workin' on 'er, Rock), and other subsequent campers, I've been hunting the internet, and calling manufacturers, and could I find a simple strip of rubber angle...? NoooooooOOOOOoooooooo.... Most companies you call want thousands of $$$ to make "custom" extrusions. How fuckin' custom is a simple "L"...? So, I did what every good hot rodder would do... I took what I could get and modified it to make the part I needed. Not that this will apply, exactly, to any future project you may have, but, you might end up wanting to trim another profile, lengthwise, in the same way. I had to buy a whole 200' roll of this 3/4" rubber channel, and the thought of cutting it with a scissors, or, freehand with a razor blade, scared the crap out of me. So, I made a tool. The blade holder is just a mashed over corner bracket for a desk drawer. Otherwise, it's made, entirly, from drop-off from the floor by my chop saw... The rod stock is 3/4" solid, which centers the strip. The blade could be held in with a couple of screws, but, I just threw a Vise-Grip on it. (Note: The blade is super hardened, and could splinter if you clamp it too tight. It might be a good idea to wear glasses... just in case.) I just draw the strip through and it zips it into two equal pieces with a nice straight edge. Now I have 400'... Next project...? A hole punch with a fool-proof setting between the holes. Should be a snap... JOE
Oh THAT rubber. Can you make compound angles with that? Would be a cool idea for anyone who's going to install their own trunk rubber and maybe felts? xxx Brandy
I can't make compound angles but I can make an acute angle. ...and, with some help, I can make it an even cuter angle. JOE
