I have bought stuff and sold stuff here on the board and have been happy both ways. There is some very talented, kind, and professionsl poeple on here. For the most part everyone is here to help each other. If you dont know ask and somoene knows. As for getting screwed on here it can happen anywhere. This internet thing has gotten really out of hand vwhen it comes to Ebay, Etc. . Always ask for a picture and phone number and communicate with the seller . Hell I even have gotten parts sent to me before I paid for them. Now thats what the hamb is about. I needed something, the guy had it, packaged it, and sent it out with his own money and let me pay him after I got it. Now that true friendship and that what lurred me to getting me on the Hamb. So there are true good Hambers on here. ALways remember IF you want your back scratched then you better be doing alittle scratching yourself.

You do it by trusting people, or letting them know, "Hey I dont know much about this and that, can I have your advice." Dont ever buy shit from the people you want advice from.

You gotta do your research BEFORE the money comes out.
And ask the right questions.

When your at a swap meet, and you ask the guy "Does this fit a 2 door Diesel Discomobile ?"
The answer is always "Yes".
If you ask "What does this fit ?" Maybe he knows, maybe not.
If he doesn't know what it fits, then it's not worth as much to him.
And if you'e done your research, you will know what fits your stuff.

Yes,loaning tools is asking for trouble.

I hate hearing about how people get ripped off, especially from such a close knit community (albeit a large community) that we have here.

I was going to suggest this to Rashy when he started moderating the Classifieds, but I didn't think we really had a problem, and perhaps we don't and it's a rare occurence that someone gets ripped off from another member here.

Another forum I lurk at has a generalized system of vouches regarding sales conducted on their forum. These vouches consisted (mainly) of either Ebay feedback or users of the forum that they have conducted business with.

That way, when you see the user selling that part that you JUST have to have, and the price seems to good to be true, you ask for his vouches. If he has none, you pretty much conduct business at your own risk, or pass on the transaction alltogether. But, if he has Ebay feedback (hopefully good/decent) AND he can have a few members of the forum vouch for him because they have already conducted business with him, you can be more comfortable that the transaction will go smoothly (but, of course, there are no guarantees).

Anyway, its a thought, and I wanted to share.

I've had a good experience dealing with HAMBr's in general. I've participated in some auctions and always got the goods. I've bought parts and have been satisfied with the quality (this is something that is open to interpretation as not everyone has the same standard on quality). In general I think you should be willing to give a little when you can't actually handle something your buying, a picture can lie.
I've bought things that took forever to get here and was about out of patience when they showed up, but overall I would have to say I'm a satisfied HAMB Bargain hunter [IMG]

How bout this....

While we could make even more rules, another system to keep track of people who can't play well with others, yet another thing that eats space, time, bandwidth, money, JUST to make sure that some dudes parents raised him right.

How about I just come to said perpetrators house and kill them in their sleep?

There is a solution that would work!

Now, Burndup, what did you hope to accomplish with this post?

You know I have nothing against you but really.

Are we to stop trading with other HAMBers just in case we happen to get mixed up with the two that have done you wrong?

If you mean to call someone out, CALL THEM OUT!

The suspense is killing me... [IMG]

Plan9, ease up a bit. by burndup starting this thread and NOT naming names is a little like a kid saying "I know something you dont!"

[/ QUOTE ]

tman, iam reading it as a warning.. not a "i know something you dont".. more of a "dont trust people eventhough they are HAMB"... the HAMBrs i know in person dont want to ruin anyone due to a deal gone south...they are straight up enough to handle it without crying *victim* to the world.

it does make sense to let Ryan know... but these dipshits can always re-reg under a different name.

perhaps the problem isnt really wide spread, just isolated incidents... it hasnt stopped me from hooking people up or helping out. but i will call out the jerks that ripped me off if they ever ask for help on the HAMB.

8. I don't recall anyone actually burning me yet and have quite a few dealings on here. I did send some pieces to a guy to check out and pay or send back. Haven't seen the pieces or the cash yet, but I'm not going to get shook up over it, I'd a given him the pieces anyway.
Could say I'm lucky or could just be good dealing but I think for the most part its just that there are more Good Joes on the HAMB than not.
I normaly try and see what other kind of posts the seller is makeing before I try and buy something from them. You can tell a lot about someone from what they post.
I'm probably not the brightest bulb on the tree so if I huslte you drop me a note. I'm damn sure I didn't do it on purpose, I'll make it right.
I think for the most part the people I've been dealing with have the same attitude.
I guess that a little more than 2 cents worth. [IMG]

I agree.

I also don't see why we can't have a zero tolerance for anyone who screws over a HAMBer.

Names will NOT be named. No situation is black and white, but in the end, I have not been dealt with in good faith. My opinion, thats not a nice way to deal with people, especially in a case where you think you're helping out a "buddy."

I am a very strong beleiver in Karma. I will do nothing to throw the rabid pitbull of Karma off of anyone's trail... who knows, maybe its already caught up to them. None of my business.

My point in bringing the thread about was to vent, but to also make others question the idolatry of "placing your HAMB Heros on pedestals," you know?

Make you OWN minds up about people you meet and deal with... Maybe if I had more "Rockabilly Cred" I would have been treated differently, who knows.

Bad deals, I can recover from.

Tools that arent and wont be returned, that bothers me on a deeper philosophical level. But I'll get over it.

No one is responsible for me, and my actions, except for myself. Your own dog will bite you if you mistreat him.... Karma, baby.

Some people model themselves after con artists... conduct their affairs in that manner, and call themselves businessmen. A perversion of capitalism.

"One always has fewer freinds than one thinks" -Unknown.

11. Well, my experiences here on the HAMB have been real good. Lot's of advice (some pretty good), When I needed a car moved almost the whole length of California Tragic59 (Dave) stepped up and helped my out for too cheap. I owe him and I owe the HAMB. All the statements about people having to earn trust and not EVER lending tools you need to have returned are pretty obvious. Every HAMBer I've met has been a stand up guy.

Whether or not you choose to out this person, I'll take this as a warning to be ever vigilant with my pocket book and let that be that. The people here on the HAMB are passionate about this hobby. I think that causes them to conduct themselves with honor and dignity. And really, it's a pretty small community. A bad rep can hurt you here. Most of us are cognizant of that and conduct ourselves accordingly.

Thems me two cents worth…

Dude, why are you protecting the identity of someone who fucked you over?

Why not help the rest of us avoid the same fate by exposing the culprit?

Anonymity allows this person to keep screwing people.

The Rabid pit-bull of KARMA is a member of the HAMB...

He's also incredibly hard of hearing. You need to shout the name he should persue loud and long! [IMG]

All in all though, I get what you're saying. Running on the HAMB and complaining is kind of weak.

But not returning tools that were borrowed is THEFT! NOT some arbitrary deal gone bad.

Theivery should not be tolerated on any level. Public humiliation on the HAMB should be the least of their worries.

Remember, the iconography that happens here on the HAMB can cloud someone else's eyes just as easily as it did yours. The only way to ensure that someone else isn't clowned by the IMAGE is to tarnish it.

Dude, at least let Ryan know who it is even if you don't want it public. That way if it happens again, there's some sort of record.

Good luck, and remember, we're all pricks! [IMG]

ive given 2 assholes on this board over a yr to cough up cash... and they were getting hooked up on both occasions haha, fucking amazing

morris - why dont YOU pm burndup and ask who they are? be the little nosey old bitch of the HAMB neighborhood.

ill offer this up.. maybe its because putting names out for the lynch mob is for homos... kinda like you?

[/ QUOTE ]

Hey Plan9 FUCK YOU for the faggot you are.
What the fuck is the point of putting a post up telling the whole world that two out of ten thousand Hambers are thieving assholes, when the guy isn't going to name names?????????????????? I asked a simple question that I can't believe anybody else didn't ask!!!!!!

15. If it was such a big deal, enough to make you get pissed at the whole Hamb, try singing out their names so everybody KNOWS who fucked you [IMG]

Exactly! Don't be afraid to point out who you are talking about. Keeping this stuff to yourself doesn't do you any good and it sure as shit doesn't do us any good.

That sucks that you had bad experiences. However, I can't feel sorry for you until I hear what happened. So for now I say that you need to wise up.

I'm not trying to be a smartass either; I used to trust people more and I see that as being a good thing.
If I let everyone who wants to buy my car drive it; I might be trying to sell a wrecked car.

For example,
People say that they won't buy a car without driving it, and I say, then your not buying this car [IMG]

More than likely they wouldn't hurt anything, but I know of first hand HORROR stories. My friend used to let people take his cars for a drive (without him) and one day the guy never came back.

Then the poor guys van was stolen right out of his front yard!

You might have set yourself up for whatever happened because you're too nice. I am pissed when someone is able to turn another one of us "good ole boy" types into someone so cynical and distrusting.

My advice to be safe is to use paypal and ebay. I have emailed people for parts, and they created an auction on ebay with my own little "buy it now" price. They list it at an agreed time and I buy it securely through ebay.

I am new to the HAMB, and I am here to say... It doesn't get better than this. This is the best WWW Page and car forum on the internet.

if everyone jumped off a bridge, would you?

your words rubbed me the wrong way... :
"Or are you skurt they'll drop by one night and bend you down and pig-squeal ya???[IMG]"

you just kicked a dude in the balls while down... if it was in jest, i offer up an apology.

if not, i believe my opinion has been expressed.

I think I discussed this issue before. I believe the whole point in not disclosing names is that it may have been a one time bad luck deal. I would hate to say someone is a bad person just based on one persons experience. But as I said before if anyone wants to know if the person there dealing with has every screwed me, then please PM me and I'll let you know if that person has done any bad deals, at least to me. I have had bad experiences with both new and old Hamb'rs. Goodluck

I'll say this, and then shut up.. but I too was burnt recently by a hamber. The worst part is that I thought this person was someone I could trust the most... and I am saddened that in the process of this deal gone bad I have lost the oppertunity to call this person a friend..

The long and short of it, is this.. I dont think that spreading your dirty laundry over the board is a good practice. I am not going to do it.. and I hope others don't start doing it either.. I'd hate to see this place turn into He said / she said type posts on a daily basis..

I tried to resolve the deal several times. and finally was forced to pm ryan about the situation.. it appears that he has taken care of the problem.. something that i am extremely greatful for.

thanks Ryan

20. I've had a bunch of dealings with HAMBers and only been burned once (and he's no longer around). Some things took longer to get dealt with than I expected, but got taken care of. I also promised a HAMBer something a long time ago and haven't been able to follow through, but he knows the score, and it will happen eventually (but it still bugs me).

There's 3 sides to every story: yours, his, and the truth.

So what did you expect to have happen with this thread?

Wow, lets hurry this post to its inevitable deletion:

A few of you guys truly are morons. I have no problem telling you that I am WAY ABOVE you and your desire for petty street justice. Wake up, the '50's are over. Theres bigger shit in this universe besides fists and swicthblade combs.

I explained WHY I bothered to start this thread, to warn people who might not give it a second thought to remember that when money is envolved, NO ONE has your best interests at heart except for YOU.

I've had a lot of great dealings with really cool hambers. It only takes one bad one to overshadow that.

I dont beleive the rest of you have anything to worry about with the individuals I dealt with. Seriously, very little. I need to leave it at that.

And, in the letter of the law, it is NOT theft if you loan someone something, especially if YOU bring it to them. Its just fuckin lame when you cant get your shit back or be compensated for its loss. And a pimp-slap in the face because you thought you were helping someone out who may one day return the favor.

Let the thread die. But if you want to shoot off your Pompariffic mouth and contemptously rattle your wallet chain to flaunt your ignorance like a peabrained VonDutch'd peacock, please, dont let me stop you.

I'm not going to delete it. I'm just going to lock it so everyone can see what a genius and how superior you are. Give it a rest man. Just send a PM like any normal person would do. Seriously, you can tell Ryan or myself what your problem is without trying to shake everyones confidence in such an obviously good thing.
