Does anyone know of a source of stop (tail) light that has the letters S_T_O_P on the red lens, I have seen it twice on old Ford trucks but I can seem to find any, Any ideas appreciated.
Do you mean something like this?? If so, search for motorcycle tail lights. These are very popular on Choppers/Bobbers.
There are lots of variations of lenses with "Stop" - some added on, some cast in, and some dark-colored on the red glass. Some flat, some bubbled. I think school busses got them standard for a number of years.
I got a photo of mine off eBay ... but I like these " Hollywood " stop lights. They show up on the eBay auction site every now and then ( I bought mine there ... about 2 years ago ).
There are a bunch of antique style stop lights. The easiest to find are the round ones with the domed lenses that were on the back of every school bus in town back in the 50s. Some of the combination lights like this were from the 20s. I personally have never seen a modern reproduction but I don't shop where they might be found. They show up on Ebay but have gotten pricey for my pocketbook.
Here is one we have been redesigning / developing, for 30's and 40's cars/trucks. It lights up with led's, but it's pretty hard to tell they are led's...
There always seems to be several on there. I was looking at a couple the other day wondering if one would look right on the car I am gathering parts for. <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
there is 15 of them on ebay right now. eBay Motors > Buy > Parts & Accessories > Vintage Car & Truck Parts > Lighting & Lamps > Tail Lights >
Funny, I have a NOS glass 'ALTO" lens out in the garage. I think it fits the early T electric light. As soon as I find mine I'll know. The only place i would imagine you could find those would be in old border town parts stores or service garages hanging on the wall or sitting around on the shelf forgotten. I got mine in a parts store/dealership a little farther north in central TX.
