I've done a bit of that. The trick is to use the smallest aperture you can get, to the point of that becoming a determining factor in your choice of lens, to deepen the depth of field as much as possible. Which means that you need lots of light, and natural sunlight is best.
Thirty years ago I photographed a lot of architectural models, on film then. I'd typically set them up on the flat roof of a building at midday, to get the sunlight and some landscape features in the background. Even then shooting at F32 would require a tripod.
Even a model is ruined by those 20" donk wheels. But the workmanship is superb, I will agree.
