Last winter we bought this shoebox thinking of a customer and it diddn't work out, so I threw it up for sale with hopes of getting to chop it..... well here it is. It had really great old paint and a neat two tone interior.... the plan was to chop it and blend it all back together to make it appear as it was chopped long ago..... I'm not really into fake patina or making new things look old..... its just kind of weird. Most of the time it isn't very convincing and it looks fake. Its just weird. That being said I love old things, all of the character and charm.... It all tells a story.... most everything I have is old and well used. I learn from all my old stuff..... I like to learn. So the challenge was to chop the car without disturbing too much of its patina, blend in the paint and look convincing, like it had always been that way. It was pretty fun to do.... I used different paints, slapped it with keys and files, and buffed it all out. It looks pretty good. The chop turned out well and its just a great old car! I do hope the car gets finished and painted really nice some day... "Restored old Custom" haha..... But for now it is a pretty neat car, with lots of bang for the buck. I would like to thank Ron for making it all possible!
Its been a while since I built a car for myself.....I'm always wheeling and dealing trying to find the next one and I never have time to do anything.... I've sold some cars that were dear to me and others that were just a means to get the next one.... it has been a pretty crazy ride. Anyway, I have been collecting some pretty neat parts and finally have the platform... I've had all this stuff for a while, but finally mocked it all up for the first time the other day. The plan is to take it all home and get to work.... Its going to take forever, but this is a pretty big step. Mock ups are the best! I think I have everything for the BLOWer..... I had a machinest friend make the V belt pulleys, patterned aftern cragar ones. They are really nice..... this is going to be a very special car. Its a long time coming. The shop has been an amazing opportunity, but it has consumed me. Swallowed me up like a vaccum..... so I really need this. I just want to build it in my garage at home, like the old days...... getting back to basics you know? Don't get me wrong, I love the ASS, I just need to get back to what brought me here. the coolest thing I have found out about Texas is this old flag that John showed me... "Come and Take it" with a cannon....... its so badass I can't even believe it. Its kind of my theme song right now......
It was really hot this summer, like not even cool..... I pretty much locked myself in my little room all summer and recorded music. The Jade Idol Album is just about done..... I am really proud of it.... I can't wait to get it out! Its a big part of the whole bringing ME back and gaurding myself with a cannon thing.... haha I made this video a couple months ago...
Thats a really cool and tasteful chop, and its awesome how you were able to "blend in the patina" again.. That interior is awesome too!
I diddn't take many pics of the chop, but here are a few off my phone.... it started last winter when Max Wedge was down visiting..... I put him to work and we layed out where to cut and he did a great job! his attention to detail while cutting made it a lot easier to put back together!
Good to see you starting on your own project... and it has the right look as what I'd expect to see of your work!
That ASS has swallowed you whole, but great to see you're still chipping away at your 'vision', and stoked that you posted an update. Look forward to seeing more of your posts, especially on the 32, they make me want build cool stuff, for the love of it... Cheers, and congrat's on that 51, Drewfus
neat job on the shoebox i really like the chop youve done ,when you say 3.5 out the front is that measuring vertically or 3.5 measuring on the angle of the a pillar ?and the c pillar is measured verticle right? thanks and your 32 kicks ass
Looks very nice subtle but that's not a bad thing. Metal work looks nice and it flows well with the rest of the car nice work sir
