Well did not see anything posted last week or this week yet so here we go. Did this mock up wagon gasser last week after a buddy did a 53 Ford wagon mock up. Wish I had more time to get going on the 58.
I started restoring a Deals Wheels Nomad that I got off of my neighbor.. Its almost done Before: As of now:
OK so I'm late once again. Haven't posted model car stuff for some time, but I have been building. This one is AMT '34 coupe modified to be channelled '33 coupe, cosz everybody knows '33s are prettier. Started by choppint the back off the chassis and attaching the crossmember to suit model A rear spring. Then I cut the floor from the tub and ground it on an angle so the channell job was a little at the back and a lot at the cowl Chassis was modified for trans clearance with new cross-member. Model A spring mounts to parts box quickie, Lill Coffin rear wheels and tyres. Tailamps are trimmed from the Caddy bullets in AMT '49 Merc, mounted from behind body. Rear license mount is from AMT '36 Coupe set into body for that 'just right' look. Engine is blown Olds from original Beatnik Bandit, with mounts made from brass rod set into chassis.
For paint I decanted Tamiya Candy Lime Green from spray can, then mixed gold metalflake and red pearl in just the right quantities before airbrushing it on. Interior is flat white with pleated inserts in candy lime green with piping the same colour as engine (Humbrol dark metallic green). Dash is the street rod version with A/C vents filled and sound system ground away so new chromed glove compartment door sits flush. A little chrome foil and detail paint made it just like the good old days.
A little striping plus a bit of spit n polish and it's starting to look just like my dream car. headers are from Beatnik Bandit kit, modified to fit upside down and opposite to the way they were designed. I've still to finish the steering linkage, headlamps, shocks, custom fabricated hairpins and a few other small details but I'm pretty happy with it so far.
cool stuff everyone. i went to a toy/train show this past weekend. picked up a Barris Raider Coach 1:25, my first model in a long time. cant wait to get started. i also picked up a 55 chevy coupe hardtop i ill be "customizing" to my liking. couple questions though. dremel to chop? what should i do about the windshield? thanks ive never done this before
For the chop,I recommend a razor saw ( wide, flat blade ), from your hobby shop. A sanding cylinder on the Dremel can be used for the windshield. Tape off all but what you want to trim off. Go gently or the plastic will melt. Finish with a flat file. Use white glue ( like Elmers ) on all clear parts,to avoid clouding. Clear packaging materials, such as cakes from the grocery, come with a veriety of compound curves, bulges, and bubbles. I save them throughout the year for use in model chops. They cut with scissors, and are much thinner. There are very few windshield shapes that can't be matched.
The two that made it off my bench: If I don't actually have to PAY for engines, I don't see why I need to use only one.
Carps, that is one SWEET build! I Like it, looks very early Australian hot rod(ish). I picked this up a while ago, its pretty rare and I would like to find someone who does re-pops of the decals. Doc.
It is that kit, 100% complete and the blower belt isnt perished. Talk about rare! Ps, Carps, spill the beans or I'll have my mother take the Lexus for a 'spin'.......
Is that the "Sizzler" Monogram Dragster? It had several different building options. Those "clear spoked wheels" look pretty good IMO.
How DARE you build models on a picture of ME..hahahahahahahaha, oh and Keiths coupe too..haha the model is kickass...you're fogiven
I humbly thank you for you're forgiveness! Makes a better back drop than a shitty bench top I thought!
i built this one about 2 weeks ago... front tires suck and for some reason the hood scoop doesnt stick out of the hood like it's suppose to still have to paint silver around windows and sidetrim...
