Now that the weather is getting warmer i have been working on getting my front end assembled. I was checking the wishbone and noticed one side has a nice bend in it. Put a straight edge on it and sure enough its not an optical illusion. Threw it in the 20 Ton press and it seemed to straighten out. Well at least until I took the pressure away and it sprung right back to bent. Question is it ok to hit it with some heat first? Any other ideas?
Just bend it more than it needs, let off the pressure and check. Make sure you have a rounded steel or heavy rubber pad so as not to leave a mark in the tube. Don't use heat as it may deform the tube, it will straighten out fine without it.
I had a similar problem with a rear rod on my model A, I did use heat and no press, don't have one. It Worked for me.
Figured out what is was doing wrong. Originally i was just trying to press flat against press plate but it would just go back. Removed the plates and clamped on a couple scraps of bar stock. This gave room to bend past flat. Viola! Next step is to make the ball end round again.
