My son cuts hair at a barbershop down the street from CW Moss, so yesterday I went in for a long overdue hair cut, and afterward I drove down the street dropped in to take a look and see what was new.

First thing was this sweet roadster:

    Than this one:

I love this 32, it's part of the stores collection and not for sale.

But this RPU is for sale:

Note several items on the table in this pic, a pair of actual driveshaft exhaust pipes, an unknown grill shell, and a bunch of books and magazines. I need to go back and go through them.

How about a nice used midget racer?

    Here's a couple others:

The store is undergoing renovation right now, so it's a bit of a mess, but they are open for business. I poked my head into Reids Hot Rod Parts while I was there, but it was too close to closing and he seemed to be interested in getting out of there. I usually like to hang out and peruse the merchandise, and usually at least end up buying a t-shirt or a Hop Up mag or Rodders Journal or something to take home, but he kind of had an attitude that rushed me out the door. So I went home empty handed this time. He's not a real warm and fuzzy kind of guy.

    ..

I stopped in a couple months ago and they have some cool stuff, but I walked out with maybe 25% of what was on my shopping list.

They didn't even have Ford Engine Green paint. Come on now!

I make it a point when in SoCal to stop by both CW and Reid's.
    Always great eye candy! :)
Don't forget to hit Watson's Soda Fountain for lunch..........then do a little touring of the back streets with the very cool Historic district and craftsman homes.

Is that store named after Michael J. Pollard's character in the movie "Bonnie & Clyde" or is that just a coincidence?

  12. Having known the Williams family for many years, you are about to see some positive changes with Troy at the helm.

I'm glad to read these last two posts re: Troy's purchase of CW Moss.
In the shot of the Grand Opening Cruise, I think was like 83-84 and Jake's coupe is in that shot, Rick Rotundo's 32 Panel, one of Jake's 3W finds chronicled in R&C in 71,then belonging to Mike Harper in that shot and of course Pete's Kid after it's suspension overhaul which included the Fish Products Wheels. The Pomona location is blocks away from SO-CAL.
That Orange location was original a Ford Dealer as Harold and his late nephew Steve Cardenas relayed to me back in the 80's.
I remember walking in that Store when Harold owned Vintage Ford Auto Parts, He sold it to Bill in the 80's and Bill moved it to Stanton where it was for years. It became Vintique for a short while then became CW Moss.
Bill McGrath who owns The Early Ford Store in San Dimas worked at CW PoMo, then Orange and bought all of the stuff that we look for today.
Harold sold him his inventory and rented him the side where's Reid's is and he was there a couple of years until he rented, now bought the San Dimas location, coincidentally he thought that he was going to have vacate the SD Store and bought a building in PoMo in the Old Town district. so now full circle all the way around.

    Very KOOL read guys.

  14. I bought my '36 from Lynn, every year until he passed he would ask me if it was done when I saw him at LARS. I also remember when the CW Moss building was the Car shop ( I bought a used fender for the '61 Bel Air my g/f had).

This is good news to me. I thought C. W. Moss went out of business. Seems I saw a thread on a 40 panel truck that was bought at an auction there. I used to see their booths at NSRA events and their ads in magazines. Still have their catalogue.

  25. I forgot to mention that the roadster carries a mercury flathead and is a '30 body on '32 rails. Also the owner went El Mirage and put down a 130mph run

    Dan,
C.W. aka Lynn Williams flipped this woody to P-Wood in like 1981. It had General Jumbos on it at some point and had it's rear mat before Lynn got it. P-Wood gave cash and his 32 3W body for it. There's a great shot of P-Wood and Craig Felbinger with a full head of steam headed up to San Jose after Pete did some valve spring replacing and swapped in a set of 3:54's and the Kelsey's which it still wears from that trip in like 81????

Pete sold it right before The E-B 32 Sedan got built to Chris Kidd -Tired Iron Works-Monrovia present, past Temple City. I remembered seeing it in my teens when P-Wood owned it and met up with Chris, was told it wasn't for sale when I was in my early 30's, but a few weeks later after I believe Jake turned it down, it was offered to me, I took it and have had nearly 20 years.

Lynn always found the koolest cars, kept his pulse on the market, but was really hep with real estate as well. Last time I saw him was the day before he past. He was at the the SAR booth, not sure if he was ordering up another Model 40 Roadster????

Great to see what he and Harold Looney made happen.

  30. When I met him he was selling some cars to buy more real estate, I went to look at a '40 coupe that turned out to be at the Kennedy Bros place. I told them I really wanted a '36, they showed me a roadster they where building for a guy (Lynn turns out) while giving a tour of the shop, they thought he might have a car in my price range (parts car) and they said he was coming in to take them to lunch. I waited and when I met him he said he had one a few blocks away.
BTW I first met him as Ray.

You can just see part of his 3 window:
