  6. This is the AHRA Winter Nats. in Beeline AZ. in 1965. This is the week before Pomona. Some of the '65 AWB cars were there but Dave's wasn't done yet so they took the '64 SS Hemi car. It does have the aluminum AFX car doors on it here. Grump left the team after the Europe tour and Bill Stiles took over.

WOW! I'm not really into collecting Hot Wheels, but lately I've been buying those Drag Strip Demons series. That Dave Strickler Altered Wheelbase is awesome! I picked up the Pure Heaven Fuel Altered last week along with some vintage Funny Cars. These are really neat little cars. Out the door to Wally World right now!

  19. Wow thats an awesome shot! It is interesting to note the comparison of the very few (around a dozen or so?) factory AWB Plymouths and Dodges to those done to stock wheelbase mopars by there owners once the trend had caught on. It seems almost every serious super stocker became and altered wheelbase in or around 1965.

    I know....

Had to be a publicity picture.

The cars were 3200 to 3400 lbs.

The Bob Tucker "Thunder" Z-11 out of Orlando, FL. The Jim Hill shot if I'm not mistaken was from the 1964 NASCAR Winter Championships, Deland, FL. The car ran at alot of short shutdown area strips in the southeast and the big ribbon chute was used. The shot with the chute that Wally posted could have been a publicity shot, yes. It looks like it (the chute shot) is at Bobby Watson's Phenix City, AL track which was an NHRA strip and had adequete shut down. I believe this car was later sold to Jon Thorne of Valdosta, GA.

I did know at one time but don't recall. I think it was from northern Florida or maybe the panhandle area of Florida. Not sure though Jody.
