So i like old panel trucks and have two nice ones. Both 1963 Dodge's one 4wd with window's and a 2wd panel no window's with a 440 in it . Any way a guy called me on the phone and needed rid of this one bad. Was paying storage on it and had enough. Not run in years, no brakes and some rust. It had a title and good tires. I asked if it had a center factory seat and it did. Which i need. Said if i can trailer it away today $50 would take it. The wifey and i hooked up the trailer and off we went. Nice guy, had all the paper work, yup had rusty qaurters..... on the trailer it went. Figured i would part it and move on. Got home and had to see if it ran...25 min later it did and not to bad. Added fluid to the brake master and they came up. The clutch slave needed a rebuild and i was driving it around....OK i will use a roller and give it a good paint job so it's one color and i will push it out back. I wondered why it had so much rust in the rear but the rest was not to bad. Some old hippie decided to insulate behind the inside panels with spray foam........holy crap!!!!!! WANTED dodge rear qaurter panels.......
I know that GM and Chrysler since 2000 have used spray foam in their rockers. Ask me how I know. Stupid idiots.
My roller paint job makes it almost Ebayabile. And yes $50 was a good deal no matter what! I may use it as a mobile storage shed.
THAT STUFF IS SUPER FLAMMABLE ! DO NOT ADD PLASMA CUTTER OR TORCH TO REMOVE PANELS UNTIL YOU REMOVE THAT CRAP I LEARNED THE HARD WAY
Actually, I know this sounds bad... but someone did the kick panels and around the top of the roof in my Willys pickup... after hours of picking it out with a screw driver and realizing I could never get it all out... I broke out my torch and melted it all out. It melts down into a little briquet/biscuit thing that you can just pull out with your fingers. It was pretty fun and didn't hurt the truck. It burns in seconds and is out in seconds. -Chris Just noticed I quoted the wrong guy... I meant to quote the guy talking about how flammable it was...
the foam dosen't seem that bad when you look back at how much you have invested in the truck. Nice find!
It's a 318 wide block, 4spd, 4 barrel, 3.91 posie 8 3/4. I guess the 4 barrel carb and manifold will bring $100 bucks. Ray
Wow!! You guys just saved my ass! I was going to fill the space between the body and the inner panels on the greaseslapper with that foam to stiffen up the body and insulate it from noise. Looks like dead air is better!
YES! Water gets between the steel and the foam... the foam insulates the water and takes a much longer time to evaporate than if there were no foam present. It's basically like inserting a sponge in your kickpanel or other nook/cranny. If there's no way possible for water to get at the area you're wanting to spray... then it's a moot point... but with HAMB friendly cars... there's ALWAYS a way for water to get into a spot it shouldn't. Every place on my Willys pickup that had foam... had rust. -Chris
If you're serious, it holds moisture against the metal. First place to boil up with rust on newer cars.
Back in about 1968 and later, VW used in back in the C pillars and roof. That's the first place they rot.
