Just want to alert everyone to the fact that the 3.54 Ford banjo gears for '35-'48 cars, which are advertised as "Getz" brand in teh Speedway catalog are not really Getz. I just received mine and they are "Motive Gear" brand. I didn't care at first, because these were about $100 cheaper than any other place I looked into. A good deal at $289! It was just a bit of false advertising with the brand name. They did warn me when I ordered that these gears may require some machine work to fit in the banjo housing. They could not go into detail though about what that meant. I soon found out that the teeth on the pinion were much beefier than stock, preventing it from slipping all the way into the housing. About 1/16" had to be machined off the wide end of the pinion teeth to make it fit. All in all, no big deal. Just thought you would like to know the details if you are planning to order from them.
Good heads up. I remember a thread about the machine issues a year or two back. Might want to search for it? I forget all the details. BTW, good to see you posting again.
Thats for the heads up, I was planning to buy a set soon. They must have changed manufacturer's, a friend of mine bought a set awhile back for his roadster and had no machining issues with them. Thanks Drew
Thanks, I just found the old link. I should have known to check this board beforehand! here's the old link with a good photo of the machined pinion: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43173&highlight=speedway+gears
I think Speedy Bill bought the "Getz" brand years ago...I used to buy "Getz" QC gears for my circle track rears...when you own the name anybody can make 'em for you...
