  9. Nothing to exciting, just trying to fit the headlights by cutting down the mounting and getting the wheels ready to paint....

  11. Funny you mention that, I'm in the process of building my 39 Zephyr sedan into a padded topped car, and at one point, I was dead set on adding a duvall style windshield and a "socal plating" style top. I photo-shopped it that way a couple of times...

The So Cal Plating 36 was an inredible custom, and was far outside the box of what you might normally see in a street custom at that time.

Great inspiration, and nostalgia's car is blowing my mind...

Cool, let's see that photoshop! Not trying to hijack the thread or anything, I was going to use a '37 Zephyr Sedan...

Somebody grab the $12,000 40K mile sedan in the classifieds and do this!

  16. I lowered and tucked in the spare by cutting it apart slicing it and welding it back together. Then I redrilled the mounting holes to get it about 2 1/2 inches lower total. The grey one is stock...

  17. Here's how I did the '41 Ford gas door... First I made a fixture to form the opening...

After filling the holes in the fender I decided where I wanted the door...

clamped securely after cutting out the opening...

    Work edge over slowly...

Test fit and hammer and dollie till the fit is perfect...

I used a late model headlight bucket to fill in the void...

Very clever - it gives it a nice "factory" look. Awesome build. vic

It kinda blows my mind to think that once, a '41 Ford gas door was the epitome of cool and high-tech--but it was!

    Nice job, as usual.

  20. Looking great. nice work on the filler door. Is it on the left rear fender?

  21. I tried to position it so the original filler tube could be used after shortening...

Neat project, Lynn. I think you once told me that you wanted to do this, but I didn't realize that you were well into it.

    I'll watch with interest!

  27. Can't believe I missed the start of this thread. All I've got to say is WOW!

Vary, very nice with a lot of ingenuity and craftiness in the fabricating. I'm loving it.
