Here's one I just pulled out of the clamshell package... Can't wait to test an' tune it for more speed...
Check these internet shops out for 1/32 scale (some also have HO) cars and race sets - 1. Electric Dreams 2. Proffesor Motor 3. Nomad Slot Racing 4. Hot Slots 132 1/32 (some 1/24) car and track brands (in no real order) - 1. Slot.it (cars) 2. Ninco (cars and track) 3. Scalextric (cars &track) 4. Carrera (cars & track) 5. NSR (cars) 6. Monogram (cars) 7. SCX (cars and track) I built (had built) a 50ft wood track for one of my bedrooms. Much more fun than the plastic tracks, but also much more expensive. I have both 1/32 and 1/24 scale cars. The cars can range from $40.00 to $600.00+...each..! Though most 1/32 cars are in the $40 to $110 range. Sets go from $150 to around $350 (1/32 scale). Carrera (cars and track) is a good all around set to start with. Ninco (better cars, second to Carrera for the track) is also one to look at. The HO (1/64 scale) cars aren't as fast or as scale looking, but are still plenty fast, decient looking and you can put a longer track in a given space than the 32 scale tracks. Be carefull...it can be addicting..! Mike
Depending what you want, ho, 1/32, or 1/24 scale. I have some vintage 1/24 eldon and strombeckers I'll be selling but not til my house is finished and I am moved in around the new year.
Just a couple of Basic Slot Car builds.. Got two wood ovals and a dragstrip in the shop.. Some east coast mods. On the Islip Oval-Figure 8 and the Dirt Bullring.. Body on Body off Some of the sprints.. have some early styles resin cast in the works.. more Hamb friendly.. Dragstrip stuff .. the 33 Coupe was built for the Slot Car Land Speed record on a 200 foot plastic track held this summer.. took 3rd in the unlimited class.. all out anything goes.. clocked out close to 1,500 MPH in scale speed...crazy huh.. Have a bunch more... Thanks Wood...
Crazy, You can see (not real well , Cars where going to fast )... the rear wheels are totally off the ground and in a wheelstand... haha wood
Last year they were in Hobby Lobby in HO and the year before SCX cars and sets in 1/32 could be bought in Target stores. So yes, they're still available, they're not everywhere but they're not that hard to find.
there is a place called "Slots of fun" that has some pretty big time slot car races (drag races as well as round track) once a month or so down in Abbeville, SC. real cool place and a lot of fun.
Or have fun building your own in 1/25 from a model kit and brass for a chassis. This is why I like the bigger scale, this car, although not H.A.M.B. worthy, not only won the 1999 Australian nationals in its class (HotRod/Unlimited) but best in show as well. See, no limits to what you can do out there with slot cars!! Doc
At first glance, the SCX sets at Target may look like 1/32 scale but they are actually 1/43 scale. If anyone lives near Montclair, CA, there's a hobby store called Pegasus and they have a nice selection of slot cars, R/C cars, Boats, Trains, Models. Real nice place to check out.
If you can wait a week or so, I will see if I can dig out the set I put up about 10 years ago. I am more than willing to sell. I beleive they are 1/32 and early 60's vintage. Rod
Just scored a Strombecker set up from my dad. He bought it in 1966 and its all there but the cars have some issues. Took a couple of days to get the track all electrified but everything is working now. One car is running but the tires are so old they have no traction and are very fragile. Ordered some tires online, can't wait for them to show up. I am going to try and set it up permanent some how. I think a new addiction is blooming !!
Where did you find the resin Front Engine Dragters? They look like direct copies of the the Eldon drasters.
Need to add more track pieces to those to come up with a scale 1/4 mile + dragstrip... I might buy the start/finish pieces that Auto world sells separate... The Auto World track pieces do interchange with Tomy track...
just got the Genuine Hot Rod catalog www.genuinehotrod.com and they have a H.O. scale drag strip. They also sell extra track to make a true scale 1/4 mile.
That is Summit. They come with Summit sponsered cars. You can get the same kit cheaper elsewhere with other cars. The seperate cars they list are only $19.95 which is cheaper then other listings though.
A kit is usually always better as it has cars and accesories but in this case I do not know. The controllers are total crap. Did not know you could buy the start and finish seperate. I just received my Groovin Racing Pro Drag controllers! Next is a second power track and another power supply so each lane has seperate power!
I posted in this thread earlier with pics of some of my HO slot cars, but anybody else have a Christmas ornament on their tree paying homage to their love of slot car racing? Here's mine on the tree in my garage, The Hot Rod Grille. Jim
To finish my Auto World Drag kit reveiw, Ha Ha. Covered the crappy controllers above. The power supply is 13.5V which is almost like low setting on a Tomy Tri Power power pack. Standard Tomy is 22V I believe. This needs to be replaced along with the addition of a second (requires another power terminal track also) for seperate power per lane. The four gear cars are slow. Not sure why they need additional traction magnets in the drags cars, just lows them down. Might be removable, have not gutted one of these yet! My stock vintage AFX four gear beat them easy. Any inline motor car will kill them. Started my Christmas early!
Here is some more stuff..built a bunch Early Modifeds on the Islip Oval figure 8 Some on my looping oval Wood
