Who makes a short mechanical sbc fuel pump?? I need one that clears my cross member.. It has to be about 4 1/2" total height.. Probably side outlets instead of bottom outlets.. Thanks for any help....

The early pumps are the smallest, but they're all bottom inlet/outlet.

Still looking for a sbc fuel pump that's about an inch shorter(total height) than stock.. Anybody have an aftermarket pump that's about 4" to 4 1/2" in total height???

The traditional solutions are to either run an electric pump, or get out the torch and remove the part of the frame that is in the way. One of these might be a better idea, than the other.

It's usually a good idea to make sure the pump will fit, while setting up the engine mounts. Too late now, I suppose.

I just measured 2 different sbc fuel pumps. They both measured 4-1/2". One is unidentified the other is from Summit. SUM 250020-1. I would say that is pretty much standard height for an sbc fuel pump. But that doesn't say it will fit. YMMV

Thanks jaw22w, The pump I have now is 5 1/2" from top of housing to very bottom... The ones I see with screw in fittings look shorter than the ones with fittings out of the bottom.. 4 1/2" total height should work for my application...

Depending on what is interfering, the pumps with the indexable bottom may help, this one is an AC-Delco and I also have a Holley pump on another small block that the bottom can be rotated, both are 4&1/2" high.

A better way to measure for fit would be to measure from the mounting bolt holes down to bottom of pump. The pumps I just measured are 3-1/4" from bolt holes down. Hope that helps.

While I haven’t verified it, I read sometime back that a stock 58 Chevy fuel pump will clear.

    Very good point!
I checked my Delco pump and it is 3&1/2" centerline of mounting bolts to bottom.

Yea, that is a more accurate way to measure.. I really don't want to use an electric pump.. If the ones you guys suggested don't work, I will notch the cross member.. Thanks for the help....
