Pink hats were for 'visibility' on the white salt, and "Officials' I.D."
(re: Bud Jones, Bonneville racer since 1949, Ramblers club of San Francisco)
Bud gave my old Safari hat a couple of coats of Wimbledon White, but asked me: "Sure you don't want a pink tint?"

  5. If only the salt was still that thick! Don't forget, the USFRA "World of Speed" starts tomorrow, the 15th, and runs through Monday.

  7. The Bell "oasis" was always a welcome spot on the salt. Free ice cold water, and a broad selection of parts on hand to help out the racers.

If I remember correctly, the panel truck was V860 powered an at best provided a "leisurely paced" trip to the salt when fully loaded.
