I am very impressed with what you are doing here. It will always be obvious that it is not an "original" 3 window but it is a "real" 3 window. If the door/ window line bothers me, I'm not saying it does, it might be because the line of the back of the top seems to have a hump because of the shape of that part of the sedan top. I think that a smoother taildragger look would come out if that part of the top was lower and more closely matched the door/window line. I don't even know how to do that or if I am just seeing something that really isn't there. Anyway great job. I too want to see it in primer.

  2. Back at it......yes !

  3. I didn't wanna do it because, basically I'm lazy, but I finally caved in and split the door so I could work it from the backside. I counted 27 spot welds before I started but there were twice that many I'm pretty sure. I'm happy I did it. The door looks 100 percent better. While it's cracked I better kill the rust, Put some sort of sound deadener and figure out the window regulators. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1413056970.323690.jpg

Just messing around on the HAMB and what do I rediscover. This sweet tail dragger. Notice the window that tapers from front to back. Looks like perfection to me!!

  7. Got the rust killed and some Home Depot dyna Matt on the door. Pulled out an it's a snap power window unit postmarked 2008 but can't get it to move when I hook it up to a car battery.

  13. I'd think about a Chevy if the floors n doors looked like Swiss cheese cause of rust. Yours is way nice!

  14. Put the door back together. The It's A Snap power window kit that I've had since o8 was a dud. Neither motor worked and I couldn't get the tracks to line up so I just cleaned up the original regulator. Gonna go old school. Didn't realize the 36 had that cool feature that drops the window back about an inch before it goes down. Probably for smokin cigs. Pretty cool. Would lose that with the power kit I have. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1414288748.391842.jpg on to the next patch.

There is direct drive power window kit now that turn the stock crank handle so you can keep the slide back feature. I think it comes from the Hoffman Group Products, "locar" et-al. I wish I had gone that direction, as mine has difficulty lifting the glass. The stock regulators have a clock-spring counter balance to counteract glass weight. Thanks for posting, I've been waiting to see how your project was progressing.
Best regards and good luck with all your endeavors, KB.

  16. Messin around today. Took out the rest of the floor so I can channel the body. Looks like about 5 inches in the back tapering up to the headlight stands. Had a moment where I wondered what the f*** I was doing with this whole project but it passed and I pressed on. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1416619087.948992.jpg

  18. Been workin on the frame. It has a drop of about5-6 inches behind the axle and gas tank. Trying to make the frame mods look semi factory. Second attempt to make it look semi decent. Ride height is pretty much set. Front will come down with weight of the engine. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1418434882.077974.jpg

You're well and truly past the point of no return with the end in sight! Only some finishing to do now.

I followed this thread the first couple pages when it came out and have to admit, I thought, what the fuxx. Read the rest tonight and was pleasently surprised. Lowcoe your doing great. I do agree with one of the previous posts that the sedan peak on the back corner of the roof is throwing an odd profile into the build. Removing some peak or corner would clean up the profile and the side window shape would look right. Its a large undertaking to rework that area, so I get it if you let it roll as is. Either way, I am enjoying following along, appreciate you taking the time to post up progress, and listen to all of our critiques. Keep the updates coming.

Just caught this build tread while waiting for the Sharks game to start and I couldn't stop reading. Glad I record
At first I thought you were nuts because I like a 2d hump back better than a slant back. This is turning out fantastic and has me wanting to do this to my sons 4 door hump back again. Last time we talked about it he said no. I think I may do it anyway. Maybe a Carson top style might be a bit less work. But that part of his build wouldn't start till my trucks on the road.
I think your doing a great job and keep plugging away at it. I like the way the trunk area came together.

  27. So are you at the "no end in site" point yet. Keep pressing on. Your getting close. I keep telling myself that.

  28. Thanks everyone. No end in sight is feeling more accurate than just a little finishing but it's all good. I'm jumping all over the place and never seeming to finish any one task completely but it all will get done eventually. I see the old sedan roof peaking out a little when you look at it from some angles and then it disappears from others... If it changes it will be towards the end of the build.

  29. This original conversion seems to have the sedan corner peeking through a bit but when the whole package is presented it sorta fades away. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1418568688.126257.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1418568716.013031.jpg . This project still amazes me!
