A guy calls you... grizzly older fellow sounds like a car hauler
He says " You and i met awhile back and you told me to call you if I run across an old Ford.."
    Ok..what did you find?
"Well I'm looking @ a 67 Mustang with a 390 and a 32 Ford 3 window needs paint but it has the flathead still in it and a rumble seat."
How much does the guy want for these cars?
The 67 Mustang $2,300.00 and the 32 three window $1,900.00.
Oh wow ...is what i was thinking..but I tried to remain cool.
    "Are you interested?"
    Sure.
    "Do you want both cars?"
    Sure.
"Ok I will pay the seller who by the way inherited these cars and seems to want nothing to do with them... he seems like a crackhead. Let me call you back in a few minutes."
20 minutes goes by and he calls you
I say... are the titles clear?
He says..."Yes they are both in his name."
" It is windy and cold out here and the guy took all my cash but I need $225 more cash because he will not take my check to complete the deal. Do you have $225.00?"
    Sure.
"I'm right by a Western Union can you just send it to me?
    Sure
"While you are finding a Western Union and filling out the form I'm going to load these cars up."
    Sent the money...
20 minutes go by...I call him and he picks up.
I say how is it going did you get the money?
He says" yes but I'm trying to find a notary for this motorcycle on my trailer so I wont be in Dallas until 4am...I'll call you in the morning."
    Ok
    9:30 am
    He calls...
"I diverted to Waco but will be in Dallas at 11:30am where you want to meet?"
Lets meet at I-35 and Regal Row
"Alright see you at between 11:00 and 11:30."
12:00 rolls around ...I call him.
    Fricking phone has been disconnected.

In hind site ..at first I should have ask for at least a picture.
My 30 year old son said you learned a cheap lesson, dad.
    He is absolutely correct..be careful.
You know the old saying...If the deal is too good to be true it aint a good deal.

just by chance had you had a add in Hemmings. I got a call about a 138 Chevelle about 2 mo after my add. I told him I was selling out due to illness{ I am not sick} and did not want to buy anything. I have 2 other friends that had the same happen to them after having a add in HMN. Its easy for the perp to get a fish that way... If it too good to be true well you know......... Bobby

Maybe it was all true...but someone else gave him 3 grand for each when they saw the trailer while he was stopped for lunch!
He made out like a bandit. LoL

Seriously though...you are very lucky in getting off so cheap!

That's too bad, but as has been said, you got a cheap lesson. You're not the first, and you wont be the last.

Two cars, unbelievable prices. “I’ll be there in an hour, with cash in hand.” If he doesn’t hang up immediately, maybe it’s not a scam. But if it’s too good to be true, yeah, it’s a scam. You got off cheap.

I would be more inclined to send money to anybody I didn't know than to several people that I do know. I would at least have a 50% chance of not getting ripped off. :(

  27. Ya fell for it... that's $225 out of your pocket, a painful lesson. I've been horse trading cars for 45 years, cash on the barrel head although I've found some deals on eBay.

Sorry you got took, but because you fell for it, you keep the scammers in business. If everyone quit falling for these too good to be true/Western Union money transfer scams, the scammers would dry up and have to really work a real job for a living like the rest of us.

First off, Info on a deal like that would cost you a finders fee. A transporter has a black book and knows how to sell a lucrative deal they cant afford,, and know who to call with cash right now.
